Template talk:Abandoned
Add topicImprove the template
[edit]To all experienced English Wikinews editors: I am a newcomer here and it was an ugly surprise for me when my first article was named "abandoned" with this template and I absolutely did not understand why. All went ok then, but for everyone like me, please consider some improvements of the template - some links to what should be done with the article or at least explain better what does it mean. More in the User ShakataGaNai discussion. Thank You, Okino (talk) 22:57, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- I actually don't really understand what it is that's not understandable. If you follow the link to WN:PD then everything actually gets explained. But of course we are open to any suggestion. - Jurock (reply) 23:38, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
The problem is, that a new editor does not understand, why he/she should edit an article he/she thinks that is finished. The Wikinews (still a lot unusual) practice of reviewing articles requires reviewing of articles, but the newcomer does not know that, so he/she does not ask for reviewing, only leaves the article as it is, hoping the article will be published soon (as he/she does not know, why it is not published immediately) - and then there comes the surprising abandoned template, which is rather confusing - it says the unpublished article (why it is unpublished??) is going to be deleted because it is not edited (why it should be editted??). Of course, there is some note in the "Important Information for Editors" down below the Save page button, but for me (and probably many more newcomers) it can be quite insufficient. --- Thanks. - I agree with Okino. Maybe we can add something like this
- If you feel that this article is ready to be publish, please add {{review}} to the article
