Where the 'Edit' link, links[edit]

There's two good reasons for having the link point to where I set it:

1. Edit conflicts: if someone else starts 'editing' a page you're writing from scratch, whoever saves their version second will get an edit conflict. Of course, as both were starting from a blank page, they're likely to be very different!

2. All that space is is just a place to create a link in order to create a new article. That's all. We need somewhere to it and it might as well be there. Once created and saved, the article can be linked to from where-ever necessary (template:Latest news, template:Editor tasks etc) and the original link removed.

  1. The guidelines suggest you add the date line, the category, then save. And so on.
  2. The template serves more than just the purpose of creating a link. It is on the main page, getting people to help out on the article. Without it the new article must be posted in two or more places, and that doesn't happen except when someone has the time and interest in doing maintenance. Then it also has to be removed from two or more places. And that doesn't happen either.

  • You have to save the link to click it to start writing the article. Further, why are you trying to make these changes? You've made no attempt to explain the benefits. The old system was working very well. People are getting very confused by your changes - if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Dan100 (Talk) 10:45, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
