I removed Featured Story title from it, because the particular story I was putting up at the moment was not featured, just simply a notable event. --Dčabrilo 22:17, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

We can leave the "featured story" title there, correct? We are just featuring a notable event. -- NGerda 22:23, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
I would use it depending on the actual article. When we have enough notable events for three leads, then no "featured story". When there is an actual featured story (like original reporting or something very interesting though of little impact on the entire planet), we can put it back up. --Dčabrilo 22:25, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

I suppose so, although the Workspace instructions are very much that this for a "featured story", and we usually do have something worthwhile around to put in. Dan100 (Talk) 22:26, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

When I actually removed it, all of the leads were rather old, and there were not many new articles, so it didn't feel right to have a featured story label when it was an ordinary story :) Then you actually shuffled them and got the featured story as a third lead :) --Dčabrilo 22:28, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

Guidelines for the Third lead article[edit]

The Third lead article template presents a current top story on the main page. It uses a nested template to do so.

What defines a Second lead article?[edit]

Articles which are placed in the lead article should be:

  • Of interest to a large readership.
  • Must be current news.
  • Must include a relevant image. If an article is breaking and no images are yet available, Image:Breaking.png may be used temporarily.
  • Must be published. This also means it must not be disputed.
  • Generally the third lead is a "human interest" story; this is not a rule but a guideline.

Who may change the third lead?[edit]

Anyone may change the story. If the lead has been up a while and there are more-current articles, feel free to update with a new article.

When to change the third lead?[edit]

When the article is getting old. When there are more-current news. When there is breaking news of general interest.

How to change the third lead?[edit]

There are two templates for the third lead article, {{Lead}} and {{Lead 2}} The Lead includes a link to the full article at the bottom; the Lead 2 includes a link to the full article plus a link to another related article at the bottom.

The synopsis should be very brief, 1-3 short sentences, which describe the general news event. Details are available in the article, so there is no need to put them in the synopsis. Do not use links in the synopsis.

For Main lead articles (single article) you can replace the current one by copying the following and filling in form:

{{Lead|Title=
|Image=
|Image text=
|Image width=120
|Synopsis=
}}

For Main lead with secondary link (two articles) you can replace the current one by copying the following and filling in the form:

{{Lead 2|Title=
|Image=
|Image text=
|Image width=120
|Synopsis=
|Secondary_Article=
}}

Why?[edit]

what makes this story more important than the massive pet food recall? Personally I am not affected by unarmed flights over Turkey...DragonFire1024 17:46, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
