[edit]Amynewyork4248, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! — Doldrums(talk) 18:01, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
speedy
[edit]hi, i see from ur userpage that u have some training in journalism, so all the more reason to welcome you :)
this is just to let u know that i've removed the speedy delete tag on the older tsunami article - as one might expect, we don't delete articles just coz the events have superseded their content. What's happened is that the article with the updated info, the one you've created, has replaced the older one in the lead. the older one will remain as it was, documenting what was known at the time it was written.
btw, the way wikinews handles (well, supposed to) breaking news situations in which the news events are developing while being reported, is we publish the article with a "breaking news" tag ({{breaking}}), letting readers know that the article is likely to change as events unfold. all updates to that event will be compiled in one place - that article, rather than being scattered over several small articles. once the article has been published for sometime, say more than a day, or no further developments are expected, then the breaking tag is removed and the article is considered a historical document - it will not be updated to reflect newer information. — Doldrums(talk) 18:12, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Can you stop putting speedy tags on articles before they are further developed? You only put speedy tags on articles that follow the Wikinews:Speedy deletion guidelines. Best to wait for an edit. Articles with no meaningful content or history, vandalism, advertising, spam, and/or abandoned for four days should be taged speedy. If an article does not meet those guidelines, it should be posted on Wikinews:Deletion requests. —FellowWikiNews (W) 20:02, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
