  • 6/28/2014 1155am local time: Interviewed Dale Barnes at Old Main Street Farmer's Market in Chandler, Texas. He manages a small produce stand there (one of several there......the market is open about 3 days per week), selling a range of locally grown vegetables. Told me that some local growers have complained about recent excessive rain causing "rot or mildew" on some vegetables. Stated many vendors there are currently selling 60 - 80% of the produce their farms will produce right now. Also stated earlier this summer "A'lot of what was being sold was brought up from south Texas, but most of what's being sold right now has been grown right here locally." --Bddpaux (talk) 04:44, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • For this type of article, I suggest the lede (and the article as a whole, of course) should clearly delineate how much of the commentary is regular folks Wikinews talked to and how much is, well, professionals in some sense or other (and,of course, what sort of folks and what sort of professionals). Although the lede should not be detailed, it should be specific. Remember, the lede is supposed to make the case for newsworthiness. "Some people in Texas commented on the weather" is weak because it's not specific and therefore doesn't impart a sense of newsowrthiness. On the other hand, something along the broad lines of "Professionals and ordinary citizens have commented on the weather; Wikinews talked to local farmers and citizens", or whatever, ought to be able to make the most of whatever potential for newsworthiness the material has.
  • In this case, the lede is on the weak side. The reporter has remarked elsewhere they'd hoped to gather comments from more people; and per above, a strong lede could help to make the most of what is gathered.
  • Review was (through a concatenation of circumstances) unfortunately sluggish on this; that didn't help, although, as usual with OR, the stronger the collection of comments the more robust the freshness.
