You seem to have a decent understanding of how things work here, but just in case here's the standard welcome message: ==Welcome==

Blackholesun, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! JoshuaZ 18:19, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

p.s. I'm very happy to an apparent new user is being civil and helpful in this somewhat trying matter. I do hope that regardless of what happens to this article you will stay and help contribute. JoshuaZ 18:19, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Source removal

[edit]

Regarding the removal of the Jimbo Wales interview and other sources, I think it might make sense to keep them in at least for now because 1) they help paint the broader picture of the dispute and 2) They might help convince people sitting on the fence about the matter that this is more newsworthy. Strong Agreement. One of the sticking points in the DR is that there's barely enough sources as is. Removing them just makes it look worse. Jigsaw
I'm just going by what it says in the second key policies link that Joshua posted up above. Wikinews:Cite sources says "Only cite sources used for information - do not add sources if you did not include any information from them." —Blackholesun 00:48, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah ok, good point. That's actually something that seems to be played with a little loosely when their is background stuff that's clearly useful or when the background was used in deciding what should be emphasized or not in the article. But given how much drama this article seems to have connected with it, being careful with the actual policies is probably a good idea. JoshuaZ 01:06, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
