General

[edit]
  1. Fix 404s. Done
  2. Optimise performance by using http://img.wikinewsie.org for static images within the wiki, static content through http://static.wikinewsie.org
    1. /me notes that's probably not a bottle neck given the number of hits the site gets (and doing that might not make it all that faster, since they're both hosted from the same server). There are many other things to consider optimizing that will have much better gains if we encounter performance issues. Bawolff 20:22, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
      • This is not to optimise performance server-side. Yes, it would allow such at a future point. However, it tends to have an impact client-side in that a browser will see different domains and send more parallel requests where it might otherwise queue requests if all to the same hostname. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:28, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ah, that makes much more sense. Bawolff 20:30, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  1. Write map of wikinewsie hosting/site.
  2. Would it be cheeky to ask for FTP access again? μ 21:32, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I currently have access to limesurvey, which I'm uploading as I type. It would be useful to have access to the MediaWiki installation in my own right – I've installed a few extensions and settings, I'm happy to continue. By the way, Dendodge raised a concern that "original.wikinewsie.org" was a pretty long domain name, and was wondering why it wasn't just "wikinewsie.org/wiki". — μ 21:51, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Anything else?

[edit]

Feel free to add additional suggestions on how the site should be set up; any additional tools that would be useful; tweaks to the appearance, and so on. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:39, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Additional screenshots for other mail clients would be most useful. At present, only Evolution on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is given.
