[edit]ChampCarGuy, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Re:Pic licensing
[edit]Hi JC. I see you're active at the moment. I left a question on Markie's page, as he changed the license on a pic I uploaded, but then noticed that he wrote he was going off line. Do you know why he changed the license, and could you point me to a page which explains Wiki News Image licenses? Thanks! - Hello ChampCarGuy. I am not entirely sure why Markie changed the licence. You can wait for a reply from him on that. However, just looking at the wording, you indicated that you "took this photo and release this low rez version to public domain." So, I am guessing that he changed it to PD based on that statement. Images are best uploaded to [Commons]. You can get all the information on licencing there. Then the image can be used across all Wikimedia projects, including Wikinews. A user here, Adambro, is an expert on licencing requirements. You may wish to bounce some questions off him. Wikinews image use policy can be found here. Hope this helps. Cheers, --Jcart1534 02:11, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yup just to clarify i changed the pic licensing to PD due to sentence above which stated you released it to PD. Thinks JC covered the rest though. Thanks and nice story!! --MarkTalk to me 08:11, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Re:Thanks
[edit]No problem. Yep, it takes some getting used to, but eventually it'll click, :) Thunderhead - (talk) 04:15, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Image attribution
[edit]That's a good question. Basically, you are saying that you are Steven Walker of DECHUSA, and don't want attribution as far as use on Wikinews is concerned, to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest. I usually put the attribution on every image that mentions a source, even if not specifically required by the license. (I attribute my own images to myself, see PETA protests Burberry in White Plains, NY, but then again, I have no commercial interests). I am afraid that I am not enough of an expert on the subject. Others have suggested that you consult User:Adambro on this type of question, and I will too. User:Bawolff is also knowledgable (but away right now) as is User:Stevenfruitsmaak (works on our featured images in the news. I am not sure if this response is of any help. Cheers and happy editing. --SVTCobra 22:08, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
