[edit]Club2007, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- If you're interested in audio recordings, Audio Wikinews could always use more contributers
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! — Doldrums(talk) 17:10, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Your articles
[edit]Hello and thank you for your contributions to Wikinews! Just a note that if you want to write stub articles this would be a great place to start. If you have any questions please direct them to my talk page. —FellowWikiNews (W) (sign here!) 20:52, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Re:WikiCheck
[edit]Lol. But I would really love to get paid! Especially from Thunderhead: the userpage copyright violator! —FellowWikiNews (W) (sign here!) 19:38, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Pre-emptive edit-conflict/war
[edit]Ello ello, I saw you capiitalised Missing airplane may been found, and I undid that and made the title better as well. Now, to avoid you changing it and creating nasty edit wars I tend to be good at attracting (see my talk page) I'm going to go ahead and say: At WN, only first words and proper nouns are capitalised. Thanks for your time. Neebs 23:14, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Here's that policy, for reference. Wikinews:Style_guide#Headlines Neebs 23:17, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- In regards to your comment about upstyle titles. we had a poll at the beginning to decide which type to use. the results were in favour of down-style. Note some other news sources also do that. Bawolff ☺☻ 00:31, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- It was when wikinews started (2, 3 years ago?, not sure). But actually concensuss wasn't exactly clear, so there may be room for another poll (I believe the most important thing is consistancy either way) anyways here it is: Wikinews:Capitalization poll . Bawolff ☺☻ 00:36, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, it ended on Jan 21, 2005, which was around 3 months after the project started. Bawolff ☺☻ 00:38, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Feel free to start one (Wikinews:Capitalization poll/2 (there was not a clear concensss at the first one anyways.) Make sure to list it at Wikinews:Polls and put the words
{{poll}}
on it. It may be better though to discuss it on a more wide basis with the site first (Voting is evil) at WN:WC, but that's your choice. Bawolff ☺☻ 00:41, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
