Welcome

[edit]

Wikinews desperately needs more gutsy reporters; please give the project as much time as you can spare. Neutralizer 17:34, 25 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree, if it's good enough for the French,it's good enough for the English; so, I added the link [1] Neutralizer 12:15, 26 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Divol,

[edit]

Hi Divol,

just stopped by to say thanks for welcoming me and helping out with my first news item. I'm able to read and speak a bit of French, but it's been so long since I had someone to talk to, let alone the need to write in French, that I best not use it, I'd be afraid to butcher your language. So please forgive me for using English.

Thanks so much again for welcoming me. I might sound funny, but it is nice to be contacted by someone, like you did.

Lousy english!

[edit]

Sorry to be a little blunt, but I call it like I see it sometimes. Just curious, do you translate yourself or do you use software? MattM 17:12, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I kind of figured. I'm sorry I couldn't be of much help with communicating with you. I can read and speak Spanish quite well, but I don't know any French, unfortunately. But I am always happy to help fix up any translation errors that you may leave. It's about the only thing I do well around here, at any rate. MattM 00:08, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

npow

[edit]

Hello! I like to read why you flag this article npow. It is not easy for me to guess your objections but your comments on talk are welcome. International 18:45, 14 February 2006 (UTC) Why this article is not neutral ? Reply

I do not think that article about secte could ever been neutral. And the link to their "news" page is a sample.
The more media speak about secte, the more they're happy.
Before your article I do not know the existance of this group, now i know them.
It's good, or it's is bad ? i must ask the question.
Frankly, the npov flag is a question i ask to the wikinewsiers, no more, just to aware.
may be some anti-clergyman french culture ?
i did want to hurt you in any way, if you feel angry, sorry i didn't intend that at all. Jacques Divol 09:18, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem. I just had no clue why you tag it. I think your concerns are good and I was also thinking if the article was newsworthy at all but decided to fix someting. Maybe I should let that article die by itself. But it is good to use the talk-page to express ones thoughts and to avoid confusion :) International 12:16, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
yes, you're right Jacques Divol

redirect deletion

[edit]

Its kinda dangerous to delete redirects to young articles. You should at least check for wikilinks from any wikipediapar-ed page, and any other langauge versions, but that might not get all of them as most wikipediapars are not symetric. A more serious problem is that some articles are linked by blogs (as advertisment for wikinews, or just out of interest), and the lack of a redirect messes those up. Nyarlathotep 21:36, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

ok, sorry, Jacques Divol 09:25, 9 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome. I'm mainly active in Chinese Wikipedia and Chinese WikiNews but some day I might report some news in English WikiNews. Wish you to have a nice day! H.T. Chien 20:06, 16 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

it's easy. I know I'm sounding like an idiot. This is world news, nobody knows what's going on in your neck of the woods except you. -Edbrown05 11:55, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The last story I wrote was Prosecution to proceed with alternate witnesses in Moussaoui trial and nobody gave a crap and nobody will. I don't care. -Edbrown05 12:04, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

So, my first news-item is in, regarding the swedish foreign minister today. What happens to it now?DanielDemaret 11:54, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • I can not find the any reference in english yet. It is probably too new.

I do not know the reason for her visit. I can only guess: Probably she and her boss, Jan Eliasson, who is also the President of the United Nations General Assembly want to discuss sending UN Military Troops to Darfur to contain the mass genocide down there.

It can wait until there are english references.DanielDemaret 13:56, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am not sure how a direct discussion of Us military policy is an editorial opioun piece, but i am not a reporter. I feel these issues should be dicussed somehow, somewhere. We are talking about nuclear weapons after all. I can find almost no one to talk about these policies in the media so I tried wikinews, Alas i was a failure. My morning was wasted. Isles 18:28, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

there's many place where to speak about US military policy, you could create a weblog, go to Indymedia, go to GreenPeace,... As Amgine said we do not accept editorial and self point of view (and it's a difficult way to follow as ALL journalists are writing Editorial, but as it's un-neutral...

Sources

[edit]

Hi and thanks for your comments on the discussion page of Prisoners forced to be porters for military in Burma. I wanted to explain myself a little more fully here.

A anonymous and likely brand new Wikinews contributor spent their valuable time to write and upload a news story, and two minutes after it arrives at Wikinews it is tagged with a {{Sources}} flag. The article flag was the first thing to greet the new contributor to the news community. I don't think that is very friendly. It is not engaging the user.

I didn't have the benefit of having read your reponse on the discussion page until now. Meanwhile, I reflected on the issue of eliminating sources earlier today and sort of arrived at the conclusion that the notion could be very dangerous. I was particularly interested in the comment by you the french wikitionary died over it. -Edbrown05 07:50, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

it's WIkiquote, and it closed (Wikimedia ordered that) because of too much copyrighted matter. Too much people used quotes from a web site owning them. The site complied and the result is that the wikiquote fr site is Cleared see : http://fr.wikiquote.org/wiki/Accueil .
about sources : i understand your concern, the {{source}} tag (and many others) are not very cool or fun or gentle. They're more like razors than gentle snap on the face...
but wikinews need to "educated" people to our way very different of Real Reality media way (NPOV,...)
Real world is not a gentle world. it kills, it hurts and i hope my statements are not new to you.
And the tags hardness is a source editorial war. and THIS is a real problem.
i don't know how people come to Wikinews but when you write your first article, you begin by reading other's work, no ? (i dream ? ok...)
it's VERY difficult to cooperate with others when you know them. When you don't .... brrr
