Welcome[edit]
LyndaCarson, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! — Doldrums(talk) 04:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
licensing the article[edit]
I believe u're ready to release the Oakland housing project article under a CCA license. you can do this in two ways - 1. post a notice on the Indymedia article, saying "Released under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License", or 2. E-mail a Wikinews administrator from the author's e-mail address listed on Indymedia, tenantsrule@yahoo.com, stating that u're willing to "Release ...". this will confirm for us that the author of the Indymedia report is agreeing to the release, not someone who's impersonating the author by using the author's name as a wikinews login.
it'd be great if u can do this quickly, as, if we don't get a reply soon, we'll have to consider blanking or deleting the article since it is potentially a copyright violation.
thanks for contributing the article, and for confirming ur identity. — Doldrums(talk) 06:19, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- also, do note that, even if the two articles are not identical, they're still substantially alike in content and expression, and that is enough to make one a copyright infringement of the other, unless suitable releases are posted. — Doldrums(talk) 06:22, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- just one more note, it'd be helpful if u remained signed-in to wikinews while posting. (u can check the "stay logged in" option the next time u sign in, in order to remain signed in without logging in each time).
- you can also "sign" ur comments by typing four tildes in a row (~~~~) at the end of ur comments. only posts on talk page should be signed though, article contributions are not signed on bylined, since usually many contributors work on each article. — Doldrums(talk) 06:28, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
