Add topicComments pages
[edit]Hey Matt. Just a note that you don't need to create comments pages before users comment on them. A user can go to "Have an opinion on this story?" and click "Post It!" and post their comments, which creates the page. There shouldn't be a comments page if there are no comments. —FellowWiki Newsie 02:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi. I had been creating an empty comments page along with each of my articles because I thought the "This page is for commentary on the news..." text that appears after someone leaves a comment is a lot nicer than the "This is for rants about the article" message that shows up initially (I think "rants" has a negative connotation for most people). I don't suppose there is some way to change the default text? Matt Streeter 02:53, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I can change "rants" to "discussion on the subject of the article". And I can also change the wording of the whole thing. Does that sound good? —FellowWiki Newsie 02:58, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
It sounds good to me, and I'd be surprised if anyone else objects. I think the text in the two boxes should be the same, and like I said I prefer the "commentary" text. Thanks for your help. Matt Streeter 12:24, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I edited the template. I agree with you, it did need some editing and it sounded quite negative. —FellowWiki Newsie 16:59, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Great, thanks. Matt Streeter 17:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah I'm a bit of a negative person . When I first created that template, the whole thing wasn't universally thought of as a good idea, so i didn't want to sound overly encouraging. Now that it is established, I think the nicer wording is much better. Bawolff ☺☻ 01:47, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
P.s. Hi, and welcome to wikinews. Bawolff ☺☻ 01:47, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
This image is public domain as it is a work of the US Federal Government. It should be uploaded to Commons and not here. --SVTCobra 01:01, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Wow!
[edit]This is an awesome article, and on a first draft no less! Thanks for your contribution. It doesn't go unnoticed! irid t i e 02:20, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! Matt Streeter 02:23, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, certainly a nicely polished article, but I wouldn't go saying that the first draft was perfect. irid seems a bit giddy, and may be going senile. --SVTCobra 03:08, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that's why I called it a "first draft". :) Nothing is ever perfect on the first draft. Not even this comment. irid t i e 03:10, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- I thought your (SVTCobra's) changes improved the article. One question, though: why did you delete the inline link to Bush's speech? I put the link there because I thought it made it more likely that people would read the original speech. Do you not like inline links as a general rule? If so, why not? Matt Streeter 13:56, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- It may be a bit difficult to gleen the instructions from this section of the Style Guide, but all links to outside sources (I think this goes for Wikipedia, too) should be listed at the bottom as either "Sources", "References" or "External links". The reason is that we cannot control the content of outside links and thus they shouldn't be part of the text, but rather listed below with a description so that the reader knows what they are dealing with. Hope this helps. Cheers and happy editing. --SVTCobra 01:12, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Duplicate article
[edit]FEMA apologizes for staged news briefing is a duplicate of FEMA employees pose as fake reporters during press conference. Please merge the newer to the older, meaning add any information not present in the old article, to the old one. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 16:53, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Will do. Not sure how I overlooked the old article. Matt Streeter 17:02, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- I've merged the new article into the old one. Can you delete the new article? Matt Streeter 17:23, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit]We already have Image:Google logo png.png. The one you uploaded should be deleted as it's a duplicate. —FellowWiki Newsie 03:06, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- I deleted it. I also added the useful information to Image:Google logo png.png. —FellowWiki Newsie 03:11, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. Matt Streeter 03:12, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
This image lacks a fair-use rationale. Also, it may further violate the copyright of the ESA. Please see the discussion at Image talk:Venus Express.jpg. --SVTCobra 18:29, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
