[edit]Mink Butler Davenport, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!—FellowWikiNews (W) 21:28, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I reverted your change to the title as it was less descriptive. The most important and unique thing about the story should be in the title as it says in the Wikinews:Style guide. On the other hand, I also reverted your rewrite of the article. When articles are published on the main page the text should not change. See the Style guide. It has a lot of handy information that you can use :-) —FellowWikiNews (W) 20:39, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
welcome!
[edit]hi, thanks for ur style and copyediting efforts. Wikinews articles do frequently fall short in this and am glad to see u taking an interest in tackling it. also, if u have some experience with style guidelines, cld u take a look at ours and propose any changes or additions u think may be needed, on its talk page. thanks, — Doldrums(talk) 06:15, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
some of your images may be added to my eat and delete list
[edit]Hi there. I recently noticed you uploaded an image that doesn't follow our Fair use policy, mainly that it doesn't have a source. Note: wikipedia is not a valid source, because the wikipedians have to get it from some where, and they also have different policies as to whats acceptable image use then we do. As well, there is no image under that name at wikipedia. see also WN:IUP and Wikinews:Fair use. If you have any questions or need any help, feel free to ask. Bawolff ☺☻ 00:43, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
The ongoing discussion of grammar in article titles between us.
[edit]With most respect, this is the fourth time (Changelog, talk page, talk page again, and now here) I have linked to the Style guide: Wikinews:Style_guide#Verb_tense. It clearly states article headlines are to be written in present tense. All other proper headlines are written in present tense, except where this is impossible. But 'die' is always 'dies'. With most respect, I do not care about your professional writing. I've dealt with people on the Wikipedia who have years of professional writing expierience, but because they do not know Wikipedia style, have their edit's reverted. I will not be responding to any more talk page messages, with the exception of an apology. I already feel already by saying I enjoyed and rushed to change the article title. If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it.. Neebs 18:50, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Re: Style
[edit]Your title "Canada's Commons OKs State Funerals" was very misleading. It said Canada approved state funerals for the first time. However, Canada had state funerals before. In my title "State funeral for last World War I veteran approved by Canadian House of Commons" said that they approved a state funeral for the last WWI veteran. Your title did not. I have since changed it to "State funeral approved by Canadian House of Commons" to shorten the title while explaining the most important part. Please do take a look at the Wikinews:Style guide for more information.
