Add topicWelcome to Jamie's talk page!
[edit]Please add new messages to the bottom of the page. If a conversation is started here, I'll respond here; if it starts on your talk page, I'll respond there.
Emailing me
[edit]I prefer to communicate via talk pages. Please only email me if there is a good reason not to conduct a conversation on a talk page. When emailing me about a block, it's not helpful to write, "help! I've been blocked!" Please include your username (if you have one) and/or the IP address that's been affected.
Why did you remove my external links?
[edit]If you've come here because you want to know why I removed some external links you've added, please read Wikipedia's policies on spam and Wikipedia external link guidelines first. Because of Wikipedia's popularity, it has become a target for folks looking to promote their sites, which is against Wikipedia policies. If you read WP:SPAM and still feel that your link(s) does not violate those policies, let me know.
Welcome
[edit]Ohnoitsjamie~enwikinews, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- If you're interested in audio recordings, Audio Wikinews could always use more contributers
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!–Doldrums(talk) 16:10, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Pretty talk page :)
[edit]- Pretty talk page. :-)
- Getting admin around here isn't difficult - as you should be able to judge from having a large admin community among a small pool of contributors. Look at the links on the standard Template:Welcome above and wade in. Just remember we're not Wikipedia! In some respects we're more conservative, in others we're not. We are... Different.
- Personally I find Wikinews much more interesting to work on than Wikipedia. Here there are new articles every day that I can help with. On Wikipedia new articles are unlikely to be on a topic I know or can easily get information on - all the low hanging fruit has been taken.
- We also have accreditation, so if you can do some reporting and show off that you know how to put together a news story you can get a Press Pass from us.
- Hope these comments are useful. --Brian McNeil / talk 16:17, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and you might want to sort out some of the above redlinks. We don't ask spammers to come bitch on our talk page. We shoot 'em. ;-) --Brian McNeil / talk 16:20, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Ohnoitsjamie. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Ohnoitsjamie~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
