Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius charged with the murder of his girlfriend

[edit]

I've reviewed Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius charged with the murder of his girlfriend. Please carefully read the comments, figure out how to address them and look at some of the changes I have made. This is the second story I've seen submitted by you where WHEN is not answered. The first paragraph should always answer: who, what, where, WHEN, and why this is news. Beyond that, you have a tendency to use passive voice instead of active voice. Please consider using active voice. Please also consider adding categories yourself. This makes it easier to review as the reviewer does not need add them. Please also learn how to link to Wikipedia articles better. On this project, the easiest way to do that is like this. --LauraHale (talk) 16:31, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Following your revisions in response to Laura's review, I've reviewed the article again, carrying the review process further. See my review comments. --Pi zero (talk) 15:16, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Perspective

[edit]

Regarding Laura's question about the different between review on Wikinews versus Wikipedia, besides the timeframe there are also

  • big differences in the policies/guidelines/what-have-you that have to be applied before sighting something, and
  • vast differences in the consequences of sighting something (in mainspace). Seriously. When we publish something, it's pushed to Google News, and it's irrevocably out there.

Btw, I really would have reviewed your article already today (it's not impossible I might get to it this evening), but alas I've got some sort of low-level illness today, and the one thing it's managed to do is sap all my energy. Sorry about that. --Pi zero (talk) 22:09, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Review assistance

[edit]

I am currently at a ski area working on things for Wikinews:IPC_Alpine_Ski_World_Championships and so my ability to review and time to review are pretty limited. If I am doing reviews at the moment, I am probably looking for articles with major stumbling blocks to mark as not ready. (Is your picture correctl tagged? Is it in categories? Do you have two or sources? Is it written in inverted pyarmid style? Is it neutral? Does the lead and who what where when and why this is news? ) Hence, not the best reviewer at the moment. We should be doing interviews in the next few days and if you want to assist in transcribing those, that would be really fantastic --LauraHale (talk) 05:00, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I will be more then willing to help you transcribe the interviews. TucsonDavidU.S.A. 15:18, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

McCready article

[edit]

It's not ready yet (even though you ready'd it).....stay with it, though!! You'll catch on to the style here. Sentences have to be tight, punchy, news-like. Keep at it!! --Bddpaux (talk) 14:40, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
