{{unblock|Hello. I was community banned in 2012, although I do not recall the exact circumstances. I do remember that I was upset and I was being an asshole, and the community told me to take a hike. There was also a suggestion elewhere (don't recall where) that I was using sockpuppets which was not true; I never used multiple accounts. I did make some accusations in the heat of the moment that should not have been made. With that said, I want to apologize for the community for being a dick. My reasons for asking for the rescinding of the community ban is because the ban led to having my Wikipedia Library credentials removed. To get these credentials back, I need to get unbanned here. I'm happy to answer any questions. Thanks for your consideration, and I apologize if caused any lasting harm to anyone. That is, if anyone here even remembers me at this point.}}

Some context behind the block is available here. At the time, the prevailing view seemed to be that Viriditas didn’t 'fit' at Wikinews, as reflected in this comment[1]:

Therein seems to lie your primary problem with Wikinews, and it is not one which would be solved by your permanent banning. It would be solved if you discard the "Wikipedia ideology"; if you cannot, then a permanent block seems reasonable.

The tension between Wikipedia’s and Wikinews’s editorial models still exists, and I don’t think the issues that led to the block were necessarily unique to Viriditas. I’ve been blocked on Wikipedia myself and recognize the dynamic: neither side steps back, especially when working from different assumptions about collaboration and roles. In-group/out-group dynamics clearly played a role.
Still, 13 years is a long time. People change, and blocks exist to protect the project, not as permanent punishment. If the user doesn’t intend to edit here, continued restriction serves little purpose. And if they do, the question is whether they can contribute constructively now. If so, some leeway may be worth offering.
I’d support lifting the block with the understanding that disruption would lead to re-blocking. But I welcome input from others, especially those active at the time or with thoughts on weighing past behavior against present intent. —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Reviewer) 14:21, 16 June 2025 (UTC);edited changed double quotes to single in 'fit' 17:50, 16 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
