Request for assistance from MediaWiki - testing for HTML5

Hi all. I've been speaking to Reedy and Hexmode in the #mediawiki channel on IRC this evening, and they're looking for smaller active wikis, like us, to participate in a test of HTML5 - I understand that we've expressed an interest in it before.

There are a couple of things to consider, the biggest one of these being that we need to make sure that each and every tool we use on the site from block templates, to the buttons in the side of the toolbar, the toolbox, MakeLead and EZPR do not screenscrape in any way since HTML5 is likely to bork these badly.

For those interested, there is a link to a bug on Wikimedia's Bugzilla which is relevant - right here and you may also want to read the thread on pipermail from the wikitech-l mailing list too, which is here.

Comments are welcome, but since this is kinda urgent, we need to get our behinds into gear quickly and get a firm "yay" or "nay" into place, so the staff can get working to do what they need to do.

Replies below please, so we can get this sorted :) BarkingFish (talk) 20:19, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm definitely in favour of this, and hopefully all our scripts are compliant (screen scraping has been discouraged for a long time). However our resident JS guru isn't very active at the moment, we could really do with him being around for the change just in case there's any legacy code which breaks. the wub "?!" 00:23, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
