Chinese Olympic committee says internet censorship may be reduced for the Olympic Games

The Organizing Committee of the Beijing Olympic Games has stated that the amount of internet censorship in China may be reduced in China for the 2008 Olympic Games , which are due to take place in Beijing. They say that this is to allow foreign journalists access to most pages on the internet. According to Wang Hui, the director of Public Relations for the committee, says that the possibility of reducing censorship is being looked into.

China has 210 million users on the network, and has said it will overtake the United States as the country with the highest number of users, despite the blocking of thousands of sites, including Wikinews and other Wikimedia projects, by the Chinese government.
