World Health Organization[edit]

(Content moved from Category talk:World Health Organisation) --•–• 07:44, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I had never thought about it before today, but someone brought up the WHO and mentioned the WHO is the World Health Organization with a 'Z'. As the English website shows WHO/en that is actually the official name. Therefore, I think we need to conform and not accede to our normal British-English, American-English, etc. lax attitude. Done It is very likely the Category:World Health Organisation has to be deleted. @Pi zero: I think I should have asked before doing. Well, should we change the spelling of the org in the archives assuming they were typos? Or should it be left as it is?

@Pi zero: My intuition tells me something went wrong. I am leaving the to-be-deleted-cat as is, with its talk. Let me know what are the things I should have taken care of, and what are the things I should ensure. (And if anything that I missed.)

The most elaborate category-migration I've done was the splitting of Category:Taliban. Because it was going to take a while, I put usage notes on the old category and the new categories saying the migration was underway. I don't usually set up notes like that; it seems too elaborate for modest-sized moves. Without such a note, there's an awkward question about just when to shift the redirects from the old category to the new one (which I see you've done). When the whole operation is done, I generally do a history merge (the prime example of something an admin can do that's often effectively irreversible because it may be impractical to sort out which revisions originally went with which of the merged pages): move the new page on top of the old one, which requires a confirmation that you really want to delete the page at the destination to make room (my usual log summary of this is "history merge"); go to the history of the page, where at the top it'll say there are deleted revisions, click on that, and restore the deleted revisions (again, log summary "history merge"); then move the page back to its new name without leaving a redirect. Often, when I do this, in the initial move of the new name onto the old name I also do not leave a redirect, so that when it's all done there won't be an untidy deleted redirect at the new location. In this case I also did a history merge for the talk page, though you could have just moved the talk page.

I also noticed that the category didn't have a sister link for Wikidata, and added that. (There was an early period when I resisted adding Wikidata sister links, with the result that even now a few of the categories that got converted early-on to use {{topic cat}} still lack Wikidata links.) --Pi zero (talk) 14:44, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
