Let me get this straight. An 18-year shoots up a school with a gun so Finland is going to toughen their laws to prohibit those people under 18 from buying guns. Right. So he would still have been able to buy the gun under the new law. I just love political logic. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.117.89.116 (talkcontribs) 17:51, 10 November 2007‎ (UTC)[reply]

I deeply admire the Finnish decision to consider tighter restrictions on gun control after this event. It is responsible but without infringing on the rights of other citizens.

Every time something like this happens in England; there is some piece of knee jerk legislation that results in something else being outright banned. Pitbulls, handguns, semiauto rifles, hare coursing, fox hunting. It's all just so the government can been seen to be doing 'something' by the vocal (voting) majority. All the while, no thought is given to the time immemorial rights and liberties of the English citizen. Finland; land of liberty - I salute you.

When the dust settles and the legislation is passed there's never even any evidence that the changes have any positive effects. Criminals still have guns and knives, it's the law-abiding good guys that go without.

It is a kind of persecution as bad as any other. Just because the English minority of gun owners, pocket knife owners and hunters are not religious groups or racial minorities it's fair game to push them around to win votes. It makes me ashamed of my country. Shane.Bell 09:05, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

British Politics... "OMG! Something must be done... This is something, let's do it." --Brian McNeil / talk 09:47, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Very funny, Brian :) It'd be even funnier if it wasn't true. Shane.Bell 10:05, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
