this is wrong Some jobs require a higher level of moral decision making than others. This person has proven that it's moral decisions will be flawed as it thinks that it's lifestyle as well as the gay life style should be held up as normal and acceptable. You would not let an inmate of a mental hospital do this job, or adopt children or any number of other things that the mentally sick are incapable of doing. It is mentally sick. If it finds relief by modifying it's body to fit it's mental image, more power to it. But it's lifestyle as with the gay life style should not be held up as normal, acceptable, or something to strive for.06:17, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
1. Replace all references, in these comments, of transsexuals to blacks and "sickos" to a well-known racial slur 2. Reread 3. ???? 4. Profit!
Sick and desgusting. I don't belive what is hapenning in this country!. Pretty son an elephant will be managing this country! We are going toward hell, oh no we are in hell! God have mercy on us.
Religion is evil.
You Christians are pathetic. You act so entitled. Get over yourself. No one cares what you think is 'okay'.
This is good news.
Hopefully this can help strengthen the image of transsexuals in the US, assuming she's not a failure.
Before going on and on about our country 'going to hell' and referring to this event as 'sick and disgusting' (sic), understand that you're talking about a human being with emotions, goals, desires, and personal beliefs. I simply do not comprehend how this could be seen as a horrific event for which you must ask for the forgiveness of an omnipotent being. (Although you really have to ask yourself: why the hell would an omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient being be offended by a transwoman obtaining a position for which she is very qualified?) Honestly, this is a fantastic improvement for transgendered people in government. During the times of wide-spread racism, Americans fought racism by electing minorities to government positions. And now this will occur once again as we fight against the wide-spread discrimination against LGBT humans.
A message to my fellow-Christians
Shut up. It's their life and not yours, they are entitled to do whatever any other person can because they are human beings, and that includes running for public office. It is their God-given right and the right that our forefathers gave us two hundred and thirty-three years ago. It's sad to see that it took so long for so many people to get those rights.
I beg to differ
I'm sorry what are your [I mean this in the plural] problems with transsexual individuals? I can understand if you don't empathize with them, but suggesting that they ought to have less rights than non-transsexual individuals? (This is essentially what you are doing by complaining that they should not be entrusted with such positions.)
In males gender dysphoria occurs when one has (significantly) longer than normal androgen receptors, (this causes longer repeat cycles, thus less androgens [all male hormones, testosterone etcetera] are absorbed into the developing areas (and hence, during birth and puberty, the brain) which forces them to develop in an androgynous (if normal amounts of oestrogens are present) or feminine (if [even if only relatively slightly] higher levels than oestrogens are present) manner. This causes the individual to identify more with either an androgynous or feminine rather than a masculine gender role. BBC article on study YNOT.com blog post on study (Unfortunately I can't find the original study, I read it before but alas!, its not to be found... I believe it was on a .au university / research domain, if someone else knows the URL it'd be nice if you would point readers too it, :) )
Therefore we can safely label transgenderism as a genetic fault, now why, pray tell, should you judge someone just because of a certain genetic makeup? You may just as well judge people for having black hair or being female or brown eyes. See what I mean?
Now aside from her gender is there anything negative about her? It is excusable to fire someone on such grounds if the had an affair or went through a (very) messy divorce with their spouse, not because they have different genetic traits to yourself, we can't all be Aryan... (An enormous amount of sarcasm intended, please nobody take offence :) )
I'd also like to add that life is pretty hand for individuals with high levels of gender dysphoria, over 50% attempt suicide before the age of 21, and 31% (of all individuals with gender dysphoria, not 31% of individuals who attempt suicide) actually succeed, and just being the offending gender role causes an enormous amount of depression (in individuals, not speaking of the group in general). So please don't assume that transsexuals are trying to force their views or opinions or hopes of acceptance onto you, they just want to not become another statistic, they just want other people who are too shallow to understand that there is more to gender than 'X' or 'Y', there is also what you perceive yourself to be. In addition to this I'd just like to point out that if we would just stop attaching so much importance to gender (and masculinity or femininity respectively) and self image then transgendered individuals would be much less likely to commit suicide and to need to express themselves as female (this, of course, applies only to semi-borderline transgendered individuals, those who feel a need to be "not masculine" or to not have the stereotypes of masculinity applies to them, individuals who have higher levels of gender dysphoria will not be as easily swayed, however in our hypothetical society where people no longer attach significance to such things this won't be a problem...).
In addition to my, I'm going to call it a semi-rant (I did have an OK ratio of facts to emotion there didn't I?), I'd like to say that I have no problem with her re-election, in fact I wholly support it if she will do a good job, although I most certainly do have a problem with the city's reasons for firing her in the first place.

- I think your argument can be summed up as, "this is genetic", nobody - really - nobody would go through all the surgical procedures if they didn't truly believe it was what was best for them. It isn't a lifestyle choice, and if someone wants to argue that it's a genetic issue that we can 'fix', well, we're probably 20+ years away from that, and I'd question if it really is ethical to apply such if we find it. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:20, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
