  • The problem here is the focus of the lede. A newsworthy article focuses on a news event that is specific, relevant, and fresh. The three-day mourning is fresh; the death is not, as it happened last month. The headline correctly identifies the mourning as the focus. But the lede should summarize the focal news event by succinctly answering as many as reasonably possible of the basic questions about the focus. Here, however, the lede is about the death, not the mourning.
