Bawolff, I removed the satellite photo from this page earlier because I believe it to be fake. Please read the talk page on the image. If you think I'm wrong (it's not impossible) then feel free to put it back again, but please let me know that you've considered the matter and have reasons to believe that it's genuine. --Colin zr 22:31, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to add it back in: the image is very similar (though much higher resolution) than the current image of the day at the NOAA: http://www.osei.noaa.gov/OSEIiod.html. Note the shape of the black cloud. -- IlyaHaykinson 22:43, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't we just use http://www.osei.noaa.gov/OSEIiod.html in the article, rather than the disputed one. Although it's lower resolution, it's more informative and we definitely know the origin. Motor 23:05, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ilya, thanks for challenging me on that one, I've taken another look and you may well be right. Motor, as for the origin of the current image, it's bit-for-bit identical with the BBC image from earlier today. Colin, no problem. Thanks for looking out for it — I figure if I knew the geography of the area well enough I would probably also suspect the image. As for the origin of the source, it is marked NOAA, and the OSEI site does say that they have higher resolution images available, so I think we're all good copyright-wise. -- IlyaHaykinson 08:10, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
