I have tagged this article for {{Sources}} as there are none listed. --Chiacomo (talk) 04:58, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Um.... it was the Melbourne cup, widely known as "The race that stops a nation". Are 20 million Aussies watching TV and listening on radios enough of a source? ;) Imroy 06:08, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting issues[edit]

I have read the article a couple of times and do not see any "formatting issues". Please elaborate on what you mean. - Borofkin 03:37, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar, punctuation, overall sequence of the article. The continuation of items is very key in writing articles. While there is much information in this article, it needs to be presented in an organized fashion. --MrMiscellanious (talk) (contribs) 03:46, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
If you think this is the case then in my opinion you should use the "cleanup" tag rather than the "develop" tag. However, I don't think the problems you have identified are particularly obvious, and I think that in the time you spend tagging and explaining, you could probably have fixed the issue yourself. It seems much more efficient than trying to explain it all to someone else, you will then probably only see some of the problems that you see. - Borofkin 03:54, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Why fix it yourself if your goal is to teach others to do a better job? --MrMiscellanious (talk) (contribs) 03:57, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Fixing it yourself does teach others to do a better job, because they read the diff and see how much better it is. Moving it back to develop is received by newbies, in my opinion, as an unconstructive criticism of their work, and discourages them from making further contributions. When I work hard on an article, I feel elated when someone decides to improve it, and deflated when someone decides to tag it and ignore it. - Borofkin 04:03, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Publishing?[edit]

I've tried to clean this up a bit -- I'm not sure if the names of horses are set of in italics -- if not, please change. Such highlighting does make for easier reading, I think. I consulted both our style guide and the style guide at Wikipedia and could find nothing conclusive. Also changed some of the text -- I'm not sure how much of the original text was regional, so some of the things I left might yet be changed. Please have a look and see what you think. - Unsigned comment by User:Chiacomo Oops -- I forgot! How dare I? --Chiacomo (talk) 04:42, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've made some changes to the article, and now support publishing. We should give MrMisc a chance to review it. - Borofkin 04:44, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Haven't heard from MrMisc. Publishing. - Borofkin 06:25, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Additional info[edit]

You should add additional info such as the controversy over watering the track Nil Einne 12:00, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not a bad idea - you can make such changes yourself if you want. - Borofkin 22:46, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
