"Abductions" should be alleged[edit]

Note to the author. These "abductions" should be considered alleged. The ten people have not been convicted of a crime and until a conviction has been made, any acts should be considered alleged. Calebrw (talk) 00:56, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Review of revision 949155 [Passed][edit]

I'm a bit unhappy with how the headline is written. The "abducting" between quotes gives the impression that the allegations are false, while they might actually be true. The Haitian government's concerns over child trafficking are valid. I'd have "US citizens arrested for alleged abduction of Haitian children" instead. Also, while it is heartbreaking how many people are suffering in that place, how is the picture in any way relevant to this particular news piece?

Even before the earthquake, children where being abandoned by their parents so they can live in a better life. In Haiti an Haitian orphanage had a better standard of living then children with parents. America churches had built dozens of Schools, Orphanages and bakeries to fund and support them. I'd helped built two schools outside Les Cayes.--KDP3 (talk) 07:17, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Someone said "abducting", so it is inside quotes. — μ 09:27, Monday February 1 2010 (UTC)
Putting the quotes around a single key word, in a headline, however, strongly invokes the scare quotes idiom, and is unlikely to be interpreted in any other way. NPOV requires that we not embed a personal opinion about veracity, and "alleged abduction" sums up the situation precisely and unjudgmentally. --Pi zero (talk) 12:03, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, totally agree. However, the google news link now points to nowhere. How about a redirection? Gray62 (talk) 14:15, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. As of now, there's a working google news link with the new title — and it's listed as "3 hours ago". --Pi zero (talk) 16:21, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thx! I guess I should have checked if that's still a problem, before posting this. Sry.Gray62 (talk) 19:56, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
