for Taiwan in the Olympic Games, either "Taiwan" or "Chinese Taipei" refers to the same thing. but for the all-known political reason almost everybody concerning this place prefers one of the two. it seems that anonymous101 prefers Taiwan. there are problems either use "Taiwan" or "Chinese Taipei" here in this piece of news: for if use "Taiwan", the flag is not what actually used by the team and IOC; if use "Chinese Taipei" there is even no figure of its flag on wikinews by now. i acknowledge the de facto government ruling Taiwan (ROC) and disagree with the PRC government who says that Taiwan is a part of PRC. in fact the term "Taiwan" does not imply it is a country, yet, "Chinese Taipei" does not imply that Taiwan is part of PRC. the main point that ROC and PRC quarrels about is in fact the Chinese translation of "Chinese Taipei": it was "中国台北" which implies Taiwan is part of china, which is commonly thought to be PRC, and now it refers to "中华台北", which does not have that meaning. this is due to a recent compromise by PRC and ROC. the quarreling about names is left over historically by the Chinese civil war, and it is coming towards a reconcile.

what i am appealing here is to give respect to the IOC, and use the official name for Taiwan in the relating occasions. the current name adopted is a compromise made by all parties of the IOC, including PRC and ROC. i think we should discuss political issues on some other places where it is meant to, and use "Chinese Taipei" this time on the Olympic relating topics, which it "as is" by now.

I agree to use "Chinese Taipei" here. Any interest for a vote? 83.233.152.202 07:41, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changed to Chinese Taipei. (By the way voting is evil) Anonymous101talk 07:47, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Voting is evil. Thanks 83.233.152.202 08:10, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
