aircrash article[edit]

nice (and fast!) work. Doldrums 14:19, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image deleted[edit]

Sorry, but I had to delete the image you uploaded. It said "Copyright VTV" on the graphic, which isn't your work, so you can't release it under CC-By, even if they did send you a copy. --Brian McNeil / talk 16:31, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Light aircraft makes emergency landing in major industrial estate[edit]

You have removed the image displayed without first having consulted me. While this is perhaps the whole idea behind WikiNews, i.e. the ability for users to create and edit new stories, I firmly believe that you have completely over-stepped the mark by accusing me of copyright violation.

As deputy editor of VTV (the source of the image), I am authorised to distribute any and all media images, stories, etc. as part of my employment. Furthermore, I actually created the image concerned for use in the VTV Wales subscription e-mail service.

I have written consent, from my employer, to distribute such media and would advise you to refrain from accusing me of copyright violation, as such an allegation is potentially damaging and at best, libellous.

Had you even bothered to first ask me the source of the image, I would have advised you of my authority to distribute the image. Instead, you decided to act unilaterally and without good reason.

I am putting the file back on the page and if you further persist in accusing me of being in breach of copyright laws, I shall seek legal recourse. UNSIGNED COMMENT BY User:Valleynews

If you created the image change it to CC-By as the copyright message or send me a legitimate email from an address at your employer along with a press contact email address whereby I can verify you have the right to make the claims you are making. Otherwise I'll assume you're making legal threats and block you for waving your appendage in public. Oh, and read the welcome message, it's nice to sign your comments so I know who to flame. --Brian McNeil / talk 19:32, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The person you need to contact is:

Katherine Bartlet Head of News VTV Wales 1 Foreman Place Merthyr Tydfil CF47 0EJ

E-mail addresses, for all VTV employees are given out at our own personal discretion. However, if you wish to contact Ms. Bartlet, please feel free to write to the address above.

By the way, it is somewhat hypocritical to accuse me of making threats when you threaten to "block me for waving [my] appendage in public". It seems to me that you do not like being corrected when wrong and resort to school-yard bullying tactics to get your own way. Grow up.

You made legal threats, which is not only against policy, one of the worst things to do on a collaborative website such as this (see reasons outlined below). Because of that, we are allowed to enforce our policies and revoke your editing privileges. However, instead of immediately banning you, I gave you the benefit of the doubt and allowed you to apologize. If you're not willing to work with others without getting your lawyer involved, I will be required to ban you from editing. —this is messedr͏ocker (talk) 21:33, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IMPORTANT[edit]

My name is Robert Willow and I am the Deputy Editor of VTV Wales. I also write, for WikiNews, under the name, Valleysnews.

I am the creator of the map image, which was deleted earlier by BrianMC, who incorrectly accused me of copyright violation.

As Deputy Editor of VTV Wales, I am authorised to release any images, created for and on behalf of VTV Wales, into the public domain and have written authority to do so.

On behalf of VTV Wales and its parent company, Studio Tiblu LLC, I can confirm that the image concerned has been released into the public domain and is therefore free of copyright.

Legal threats[edit]

Do not, I repeat, do NOT make legal threats against Wikinews users. Not only are they rarely carried out, but they intimidate the community and makes users afraid to edit. If you do not remove your legal threat, you will be indefinitely banned from Wikinews. —this is messedr͏ocker (talk) 19:39, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum: Instead of resorting to legal threats, you may carry out dispute resolution on the talk page of the article. If you really feel that legal action needs to be taken (it most likely isn't), then please hold off editing Wikinews until matters are settled. —this is messedr͏ocker (talk) 19:42, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apology accepted[edit]

Apology accepted, Valleysnews. Additionally, I have told Brianmc that you apologized. It sure was a good thing I didn't immediately block you for the legal threat! Anyways, I hope that you continue to make contributions to Wikinews, particularly positive ones. —this is messedr͏ocker (talk) 21:49, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
