Wikinews:Accreditation requests
From Wikinews, the free news source you can write!
To file a request for credentials or for revocation, please read over the Accreditation policy first. You can also view the accredited users list.
If you would like to receive official Wikinews credentials, please file a request below in the form. After the posting, the user's entry will solicit Support/Object votes from Wikinews users for the duration of 7 days for accreditation and 14 for revocation. At the expiration of this time period the user will either be granted accreditation, or the vote removed from this page and archived. In the case of revocation a case may be closed early, but no earlier than 7 days, when there is overwhelming consensus.
Copy and paste the following onto the bottom of the Requests section and fill in the sections if you desire to apply for Accreditation.
===[[User:YourUsername|YourUsername]]===
- Name: Your real name
- Location: Your geographical location, for listing purposes
- Areas of interest: Areas of coverage you are interested in
- Reason: Some reasons why you would like to receive Wikinews credentials
- Accomplishments: Links to some articles you've written
- Contact information: What contact information you would like to have listed on the Credential verification page, please don't put an @wikinewsie email address. You will only get one if you have been approved accreditation.
- User ID: Can be found by clicking "Preferences"
- Applied on: ~~~~~
Note: When archiving requests use {{closed-ar-box|successful or failed}} then type {{closed-ar-footer}}. It is recommended that requests are only moved to the archive when the @wikinewsie has been created and when the user is listed at accredited users.
Upon successful accreditation
Once accredited, you can get a personal email address on Wikinewsie. Please contact user Brian McNeil about this, your email address will be made up based on the details given when applying - if you have a middle name and you feel having this in the address (or its initial) is important, please say so. You must either provide an existing email address for the password to be sent to, or have enabled email from your en.wikinews account and specify this as the preferred contact method. For further information, see this page on Wikinewsie. Requests for an email address must be verifiable - either submit via 'email this user', or signed, and on Brian McNeil's talk page.

[edit] Current requests
[edit] Dendodge
- Name: George Watson
- Location: Lincolnshire, England
- Areas of interest: I write about anything that takes my eye. This is generally about culture, politics, or an obituary, and the United Kingdom always interests me more than foreign news.
- Reason: I have been on Wikinews for a while now, and would be interested in getting into original reporting. I would feel uncomfortable doing so without Wikinews press credentials. I am the editor-in-chief of my school magazine, for which I do a lot of original reporting already (most notably a probing interview with the headteacher, in which I made himr eveal some uncomfortable truths).
- Accomplishments: All the articles I have written are listed on my userpage. I am most proud of Twelve dead, several wounded in Fort Hood, Texas shooting, an article on which I and a few other users collaborated via IRC.
- Contact information: Email: Special:EmailUser/Dendodge. Other contact details available on request.
- User ID: 26321
- Applied on: 14:43, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
(For the sake of disclosure, I am 15 years old. This may be considered, understandably, far too young, but I figured I have nothing to lose by trying). Dendodge T\C 14:43, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Support User has written many good articles, I'm sure he'll do well with the press pass too. And age generally isn't an much of an issue with accreditation, I know we have at least a few users that were younger than you were when they received it (user:Boricuaeddie and user:Thunderhead to name a few). Tempodivalse [talk] 14:51, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Support, trusted and experienced editor. –Juliancolton | Talk 15:02, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Support Age is irrelevant. You are a good contributor with the ability, I'm sure, to do much work with the credentials. Basically the only thing age is an issue for is things you have to ID to the WMF for; if they let us, we'd strike those requirements. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 15:14, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Support per nom. Trusted individual. It's about the quality of the work, not the age. Durova (talk) 18:05, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Support because this user is getting to a stage where accreditation can only help them produce better articles. --Brian McNeil / talk 18:32, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Rayboy8
- Name: Ryan Peteranna
- Location: Western Isles, Scotland
- Areas of interest: Culture and entertainment, Wackynews, Obituaries

- Accomplishments: Article list
- Contact information: Twitter - [1], Email: Special:EmailUser/Rayboy8

- The request is incorrectly formatted. Rayboy8 hasn't included his User ID, and the link to his email address doesn't work. I have changed his email address link, as he can be contacted via Special:EmailUser/Rayboy8. Computerjoe's talk 15:49, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Question What sort of things do you intend to report on with accreditation? Anything in particular (e.g. interviews)? Tempodivalse [talk] 14:59, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

OpposeI can't support anyone that has been blocked over copyright violations within the last month. This being said, I see no reason why you shouldn't try again in a month or so. You produce good articles so just remember to check everything you write before you submit it for review. --PatrickFlaherty (talk) 22:42, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Oppose—sorry, a 72-hour block less than a month before this request, and another less than a week before that, both for copyright violations, make me unable to support at this time. Try again in a month or two. Dendodge T\C 15:17, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Neutral I wanted to support, but the above opposers bring up a good point I didn't consider. Still, i'm reluctant to oppose, seeing as you've done such a great job writing articles. If you can write some more solid articles without copyvio problems, then I'd be glad to support in 1-2 months time. Sorry. Tempodivalse [talk] 15:18, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Oppose for now per PatrickFlaherty. Would support a renomination in a while; just need to see a steadier track record. Durova (talk) 18:07, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Support We need more accredited reporters who will actually report. :-) Tempodivalse [talk] 13:59, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Support because if this is what you need to make the psychological switch to thinking original research is okay, then the project should give you it. Just don't do a Dorothy and get taken away in a tornado. :-) --Brian McNeil / talk 14:34, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Revocations
Remember: For requests for revoking credentials, "support" or "revoke" means "remove accreditation," and "oppose" means "keep accreditation."
Please note that only accredited reporters who have misused their credentials granted to them (as can be proved through concrete evidence) may be listed here.
