The Gambia[edit]
They say you learn something every day, well, today I learned it is supposed to be "The Gambia" and not "Gambia", as the country is officially "Republic of The Gambia". --SVTCobra 16:05, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

- I think, no. We use many unofficial short forms. I have updated the usage note and piped the full name. Wiktionary no longer says "The Gambia" is dated. I have not seen evidence that "Gambia" is offensive, unlike "The Ukraine", for instance, which is seen as belittling to Ukraine. Circumstances may change in the future, but I think we are fine to leave it be. Cheers, --SVTCobra 17:42, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
