Let's start over
[edit]The previous conversations have not accomplished anything, and escalated to needless namecalling, so let's start this conversation all over again. This time, however, we must focus on constructive comments. Any accusations made of other users should be removed promptly. —this is messedrocker

- The current wording is quite strange ("This is for articles relating to news events related to people identifying themselves with Israel, or by the government identifying themselves with Israel."). I've seen a bit of the discussions that were held here, and was appalled. The fact that some countries don't recognize Israel changes nothing with regards to its very existence. Israel displays all features of a state, it has a functioning government, exercises a monopoly over the use of force within its territory, maintains diplomatic relations with most nations of the world, and is a member of the UN. There is no reason to doubt its nature as a country, and no reason for dispute here. Many countries have enemies, and that does not detract from their status as a state. - It's not so much that Israel has enemies, but they've gone as far as believing that the Israeli government is encroaching on the country called Palestine. Yes, it's hard to ignore that they were properly established by a UN resolution, but they're not the only voice. —

- The fact that there's a small arab/muslim block of "countries" that did not establish relations with Israel is meaningless of course in the recognition sense of Israel as an established developed integrated and in fact very famous country for 60 years now. This whole discussion is hilarious. Amoruso 22:05, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
For the purpose of just seeing where everyone stands I would like to propose we have a non-binding straw poll (non-binding as in resaults mean nothing). This is just for the purpose of seeing where everyone stands:
Poll
[edit]- This poll was de-facto closed a while ago but was officially closed on January 14, 2007
- rules
- Vote in as many sections as you want
- Keep comments short
- If you are a new wikinewsie (under 150edits, or under 2 weeks), please mantion that status (*cough Okedem Daniel575)

Somewhere in the middle
[edit]- I believe most users are aware of how I would like this issue to be resolved. I will, however, refrain from involving myself in this dispute for some time to come, since my departure from the project seems somewhat likely and I would like to devote most of my time here to achieving the personal milestone of writing 100 (or atleast 90) articles before leaving. Thank you. PVJ(Talk)(Articles I have written) 03:51, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, MessedRocker had suggested merging [[Category:Israel]] and [[Category:Palestine]], to form [[Category:Israel and Palestine]]. Any comments on that? PVJ(Talk)(Articles I have written) 10:27, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- I think the two are different enough in newsmakers' points of view that to merge the two categories will lead to some confusion. When things touch both, we can tag articles with both categories, or even a third topical category for something like [[Category:Israeli and Palestinean conflict]] or whatnot. -- IlyaHaykinson 13:37, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
