Creating categories
[edit]@Heavy Water:, if you have already identified 3 or more articles (which it looks like you did here) please list those articles on the talk page along with the {{Fill this category}}, that way it will be flagged for admins. In this case I only caught it in the recent changes log. Cheers, SVTCobra 18:03, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- Also, please create a redirect for the category so inline links work. I created Kevin McCarthy and Kevin Owen McCarthy but sometimes there are even more commonly used names or even alternate spellings for which redirects should be created. Request that those redirects be protected, as well. Cheers, SVTCobra 18:10, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- Lastly, (and this is just a strong personal preference not policy) I don't like vertical images or official portraits. Vertical images lead to a lot of whitespace on a category page (no matter how many articles there are). Official portraits seem boring to me as they feel static and often every wikiproject uses the same one. An image of a person doing something reflects news and activity (though admittedly it is a bit dead around here). SVTCobra 18:14, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- OK, I will keep these three things in mind. Thank you, Heavy Water (talk) 18:49, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- I failed to notice you had used {{editprotected}} to fill the category. Sorry. Anyway, a list on the talk page is more convenient, especially the more articles there are. Cheers, SVTCobra 22:18, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- No problem. I just did that with Category:Islamic State after I moved it. Heavy Water (talk) 22:20, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
