Polynesia
[edit]Geocats in Polynesia:
- American Samoa
- Cook Islands
- Easter Island
- Hawaii (not listed as being in Oceania, but gets harder to overlook as it's one of the corners of the Polynesian Triangle)
- French Polynesia
- New Zealand (also in Australasia, so should likely be dual-listed in Oceania until and unless we create an Australasia cat)
- Niue
- Pitcairn Islands
- Samoa
- Tokelau
- Tonga
- Tuvalu
- Wallis and Futuna (interesting; would be nice to find some news about it, also... quite challenging)

- @SVTCobra: Should we exclude Hawaii and New Zealand from the subregion "Polynesia", to avoid drowning out the other places (and conversely to avoid having to add the new category to all the articles about those two places)? --Pi zero (talk) 04:18, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- Well, created, and populated without Hawaii or New Zealand. 46 articles; Hawaii has about sixty and New Zealand about six hundred. --Pi zero (talk) 06:31, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- Seems reasonable. The case for dual-listings is pretty good, too. In New Zealand's case, I wouldn't do it unless we have created Australasia, just so it isn't listed in a cat and a direct sub-cat thereof. (Although, I did that exact thing with London, but because it is the capital of England and United Kingdom). --SVTCobra 13:21, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- @SVTCobra: I'm not sure yet whether we should bother with Australasia. Melanesia, on the other hand, is a tempting target; I'm quite pleased with how much Polynesia has reduced the clutter of direct subcats here. --Pi zero (talk) 13:44, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- Okay, Melanesia done. It'd be neat to complete the set with Australasia, but 600 articles in New Zealand and 1600 in Australia would want some semi-automation. --Pi zero (talk) 15:51, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- Is it worth it, though? Australasia would only have two pure members, so it does very little to unclutter. It just reduces Oceania by one. --SVTCobra 16:04, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- True. --Pi zero (talk) 16:11, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
