Egypt is using this to kill pigs raised by religious minorities that don't follow the dietary rules of Halal. There are no pigs or hogs anywhere infected with Influenza A virus subtype H1N1. This culling is only made more ridiculous by their statement that they don't need to reimburse the farmers because the meat will still served as food. --SVTCobra 00:52, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That would not surprise me, but I'm sure I've seen reports that other non-Muslim countries are also killing pigs. Sources for all this would be good, and some analysis if this is just the opinion of the reporter or officially some sort of justification. Do we need a project page & talk for swine flu collaboration in bringing information together? An issue with such would be people following TV reports and announcements and perhaps not being able to dig up online versions for post-broadcast review. --Brian McNeil / talk 01:08, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like a good idea actually. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 01:14, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen that Brian ... see this search. Other countries have decided to stop imports of pork, but that is pretty far from culling their own populations. Of course, I can't prove the true intentions of the Egyptian culling, which is why I posted in opinions. --SVTCobra 01:26, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think you have to say, are we going crazy on this at the moment - and why I think so is something that also belongs on the commentary page... What dirty shit are governments hiding while this is the top-of-the-hour news? --Brian McNeil / talk 01:31, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a story "Egyptian Christians riot ..." I think it goes a long way towards explaining. --SVTCobra 01:33, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

can someone give me a link where rick perry said all schools need to be closed statewide in texas?

if someone cant show where it says that im just going to remove it from the article i cant find it anywhere.
I was wondering the same actually - but I hadnt dug through all the sources, so I reckoned it might be somewhere. I think given the time, a notice might be more appropriate than just removing the info (if indeed he made no such statement). Sean Heron (talk) 17:15, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was surprised when I read that too. I haven't heard any statements yet, and right now I'm sitting in class in North Texas. 207.235.167.230 16:12, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Same guy. after doing a little research, Perry has NOT issued a statement about Texas-wide school closures. However, he has shut down school sports, recomended that School with reported cases of Swine Flu close down, and has asked the federal government for more vaccinations. I didn't get to read the full articles due to my school's blocks, but that's a good start for anyone who cares. 207.235.167.230 16:12, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
