Don't think i've ever seen a wikinews article with more than a thousand views/hour before; this one deserves it.
This is great we need to hear what is really going on in and around the world thanks so much...
You liberals only are concerned with releasing news that will give you publicity. Forget about the government and public saftery - as long as you make a point through the news and/or internet - then you feel you are correct. This recent release of documents and information will put various people's lives on the line not to mention public safety...but I guess there should never be any secured, top secret government information anymore?!!
Read the leak. There's nothing in it that will "endanger countless lives" any more than they already are. There's no "top secret government information." It's just powerful men talking about unattractive things. The only things the leak endangers is the popularity of the diplomats involved. There are no secret government codes or blueprints of secure facilities. There are no details of top-secret security operations. The government is just trying to save its face--trying to save its face in front of corrupt, foreign governments. Obama should have supported the leak and said, "yes, this is how the world runs today, and we don't like it." A government founded on an ideal and which exists through hypocrisy. Disappointing, to say the least.
Great...Great...lets continue with our eon old art of hypocrisy. Lets us not face the truth and let us all condemn Wikileaks for standing for the truth.
I think WE as AMERICANS deserve to be informed with the info. that this site publishes. How can this put lives in danger. What this does is stop the government from hiding issues that they don't want the people to hear, so that they can control everything they want.Wikkileaks go ahead and release any info that you think is important to the AMERICAN people.
This and the recent events make Wikileaks look increasingly irresponsible with their "leaked" documents.
Don't get me wrong. I respect Wikileaks and their willingness to bring light to controversial issues with complete disregard for government pressure and personal threats, as is the case with this recent leak.
But aren't they also acting with complete disregard for the safety of others?
This is such a perfect leak with a perfect timing to break the relationship between the west and the middle east that I'm starting to question whether Wikileaks has a political agenda of its own or not. It just blows my mind how well-timed this leak is, how bad it's going to affect the middle east and how Wikileaks is going to actually leak these documents come rain or political thunderstorm.
I only hope that this doesn't completely break what's left or undo what little progress everyone's made so far.
Not to disagree with you on other points, but would you care to explain how is it "well-timed"? Relationship between US and middle-east has not been warm for several decades and is unlikely to drastically improve in the near future. Unless they wait 30 years, I don't see how the release would not hurt the relationships. -Funicode (talk) 01:45, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
I don't see how this is more irresponsible than any other mass leak. It's no surprise that one arab country dislikes or feels threatened by another.
The entire point is that if you don't want the leaks to happen - dont send bullshit ill worded emails as if you're playing a giant game of risk!
Having said that it is very easy for some emails to be taken out of context
For example - about a year or so ago when Emails between academics at the University of East Anglia regarding certain papers on global warming saying words to the effect of "I'll die before I see that paper published".
There was uproar that climate scientists were tailoring the science to suit themselves - However it turns out that they weren't doing this at all; The papers in question were "Bad Science" so it wasn't a cover up of scientific findings that they didn't happen to like. AND they werent acting irresponsibly because it was a PRIVATE email until some dunce leaked it.
wikileaks reminds me of a child at primary school... The "I'm telling" scenario....
I am very impressed with what Mr.Assange has accomplished for free press. Truly impressive and worthy of a nobel peace prize. This website is the most important invention of our time and should be protected at all costs. It reveals the lies and deceit our governments constantly perpetuate and the fear that it invokes in our governments is a sign that we are on the right track. I feel that 100% transparency in our governments actions is the only way for us as a society to hold our countries responsible for the countless irresponsible decisions being made that are supposedly in our best interest. Thank you for everything you have accomplished Mr. Assange and keep it up!!! I wish you all the best in the future and pledge to help promote wikileaks in any way I possibly can. I am from Canada where the vast majority of our population seems to think our government is immune from the corrupt practices demonstrated by U.S politicians, when in fact, the reality of the situation is that our governments hands are even dirtier. Canada has been testing biological weapons for the U.S on a number of its military bases
(cfb suffield) in southern alberta and areas in the far north for a number of years now and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to learn that canada played a key role in the anthrax attacks in the U.S and the fear mongering the U.S government constantly perpetuates to keep its citizens from really looking and seeing the atrocities the CIA and NSA have committed against its own citizens.
Wikileaks founder should be jailed.Every country has the right to keep it's policies private.Wikileaks might just provoke World War III if it's allowed to leak more sensitive information. Sugreev2001 (talk) 14:56, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Provoke WW III? Wow, that's some massive hyperbole you've got there. You should see a doctor about that. That can't be healthy.
Sugreev (the Indian monkey king of Ramayana) dont be so afraid to die. Learn to face the truth. Wwikileaks is doing the right thing. Let us see what those people do on whom we give the responsibility og making our destinies.
Loose lips sink ships, but the ears hear. If you don't want someone to know how you really feal, the best way to do it is not to say it. Also, no country has any right to keep secrets from its people. Honestly, I'd be a lot more accepting of the government if they were less sneaky and two faced.
It must be noted that whenever Wikileaks releases the documents that they are warned it will endanger lives. I can't come out and fully support the Wikileaks operation if I'm being told this. But, I appreciate the operation. If we steal from people in power it chips away at the establishment. The effects of cutting through their security will mean that they have to change. In the case of music piracy we were given iTunes and alternatively torrent search engines. So now we have Wikileaks, maybe in the future we will have US Department of Leaks. I argue in support of Wikileaks because there is a chance the operation will bring noticeable changes.
Your a fool it will cost in American lives as well as our friendly allies around the world . You might as well go hug a Terrorist.
Because an American is better then any other person, ammaright! Who cares if some sandniggers die accidentally, like some 700, and then they deny it? Not like they matter, lol.
That was pretty offensive, dude. Sure, American lives are more important, but you don't have to use racial slurs. An American is also more valuable than a white Canadian, wouldn't you agree? Race has nothing to do with it. Just divine favor.
if the goverment keeps stealing and lying to the people of this country we will take it back from them they are no more than public servants to us no more they need to come off of high horse they start companys with our money have people invest in these companys they sell there stocks befor company goes under and investors lose there money and our goverment is involved with all this they are nomore than comone thieves but they act arogant snuddy and they are smarter than us and this fake global warming crap involving obama maurise strong new world order here we come
Too many links to click on..if I want to read a certain story thats what i want to click on and read not something that takes me completely off subject. Tons of information just needs to be arranged easier and more con-formative.
I can't decide because I don't know enough to be an accurate to comment on my opinion.
Which "letter to Obama" ?
If you're so incompetent that you can't hide your own filth well enough that anyone working for you can upload it on a wiki, then you deserve to feel the backlash of said incompetence. The only ones 'guilty' here are those who hid the truth.
This is the price of vile thoughts.
the people who run this will end up on the down side!
Very well written, a little hard on the eyes, the presentation is a little sloppy
