Football: Carvajal signs contract extension with Real Madrid

Today, Spanish defender Dani Carvajal signed a contract extension with Spanish capital club Real Madrid, the club announced via their official website. The new contract runs until June 2022.

Now-25-year-old Carvajal joined Los Blancos from German club Bayer Leverkusen in summer 2013. Since then the Spanish international has won eleven titles, including three UEFA Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups and one each of LaLiga trophy, Supercopa de España, and Copa del Rey. Carvajal graduated from Real Madrid's academy, and since joining Real Madrid's first team, the Spanish right-back has played more than 160 official games for Madrid, scoring four, and assisting 24, goals in total.

After signing the contract, the Spaniard said, "I'm very grateful to the club. I couldn't be happier, it's another important day to remember in my life after extending my contract with the club that means the world to me, the club that has seen me grow. I've been fortunate to win every title with Real Madrid and I'm looking forward to winning them again" ((es))Spanish language: ‍Estoy muy agradecido al club. No puedo estar más feliz. Per the previous contract, Carvajal was tied to Real Madrid until June 2020. Last week, Real Madrid announced Brazilian full back Marcelo and Spanish midfielder Isco signed contract extensions until June 2022. They join other Real Madrid players including German midfielder Toni Kroos and Welsh midfielder Gareth Bale whose contracts run until June 2022. Kroos and Bale signed contract extensions last year. Madrid announced agreement to contract extension with Carvajal yesterday.
