Possible replacement image
[edit]{{edit protected}} The original image used in this article was that of a model in a Dutch exhibition, but the file was deleted for FOP reasons. I could upload the original as a fair use image under the same file name and there are a number of alternative images on Commons including the photo (File:Boeing 787 model.jpg) that the deleted image was extracted from. For example could we use File:Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner - United Airlines (16497025467).jpg instead or would this be unacceptable under archive policies? - Those two images are completely different from each other. I can't see the original, obviously, but if either of those were the original then the other would not be acceptable. Images are content. Not 100% sure on fair use being okay but if it is that's the preferred solution. I'm curious about the 'extracted' image; if one is unacceptable, wouldn't both be? Hard to see what's going on here. - I too am perplexed by an image being deleted for FOP reasons while the image from which it was extracted is not deleted. At any rate, if the issue is simply FOP, I see no difficulty with fair use here. --Pi zero (talk) 20:32, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Blood Red Sandman:@Pi zero: sorry, I forgot to undelete the image but I've done that now. I agree with your comment about the inconsistency; I was going to delete the original as well because it is unclear why the original wasn't deleted. I understand the deletion request was based on FOP being for permanent items, whereas this was at an exhibition and would probably have been dismantled. I wasn't sure which image would be preferred for Wikinews i.e. the original or the extracted. The undeletion will time out in two days time but let me know if more time is needed.
