Original reporting
[edit]- The event was at Queens Park Brisbane (-27.472200, 153.024234).
- I arrived at the event at about 12:40pm
- The official stuff kicked off around 1:00pm
- Speakers included indigenous activist Sam Watson, Senator Claire Moore (ALP), former senator Andrew Bartlett (Democrats, now Greens)
- Bartlett serves as convenor of the Queensland Greens currently.
- Bartlett conveyed to the crowd that the Australian Greens parliamentary team would work to block the budget in parliament.
- The Greens hold 9 senate seats - and the sole balance of power - until June 30 when the senate term ends. They will have ten senators from July 1 but not the sole balance of power.
- I did start to notice the police towards the end of the initial rally. There were no problems between them and the protestors.
- The protest got to King George Square before another speech was made. seen here
- The march part was basically a lap of the block with the above mentioned stop.
