milliard[edit]

I have seen this word used in a few articles, prior to publishing: 'milliard'. I never heard of this word prior to a few articles in the past 24 hours or so. When reviewing, and looking at listed sources, I often found that this word is used in place of billion, or million. I am not sure exactly what milliard means elsewhere, but I think if we are going to stick to international standards, we should use the proper terms, such as hundred, thousand, million, billion, etc and so on. Actually, a "milliard" is the same thing as a "billion" on the short scale. (See Wikipedia:Milliard and Wikipedia:Long and short scales.) I generally use the long scale, but since the short scale is more commonly used nowadays, I probably should have used it instead. Sorry for the confusion.  ♪TempoDiValse♪  19:11, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
