Quote

Mary Cheney, The openly lesbian daughter of United States Vice President Dick Cheney, has a given birth to a son, named Samuel David Cheney.

How did she give birth to a baby? FellowWikiNewsie 02:27, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

eh, by c-section. i'll add that. --SVTCobra 02:43, 24 May 2007 (UTC) Couldn't source that, thus not in article. --SVTCobra 03:12, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps you meant how did she conceive? I would imagine she gave birth in a rather standard way (either naturally or via C-section, as alluded to above in the removed line). Conception is a different question, but I would imagine it was artificial insemination. 129.42.161.36 13:37, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

No. I was wondering how a gay person can give birth. The article is not clear on this. FellowWikiNewsie 13:43, 24 May 2007 (UTC) Reply
I read the Wikipedia article and it says nothing of gay people ever giving birth, etc. So, is this the first time this ever happened? Should we mention this in the article? FellowWikiNewsie 13:49, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
not really. Angelina Jolie, for eg.. –Doldrums(talk) 14:33, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I would imagine it was in the normal fashion. Check out Birth. Angelina Jolie isn't gay, or at least she isn't out. 142.150.78.84 18:30, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Gay people have kids like normal people...they can have kids through invetro or sex. It really isn't a mystery :) DragonFire1024 20:19, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • FellowWikiNews, is this an attempt at levity? If not, your line of questioning is baffling in its ignorance. Reproductive organs are the same and function whether a person is gay or not. --SVTCobra 00:03, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Doldrums, Tammy Lynn Michaels is a better example than Jolie. --SVTCobra 00:03, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • SVTCobra, I simply made a mistake, that was, the story did not mention anything about "artificial insemination" and I was confused about it all. I do know what it is but I guess it just didn't come to me at the time. In my earlier questions, which were deleted [1] because you said it was commentary which it wasn't, I asked how it was possible that she got pregnant being a lesbian and no one gave a straight answer, neighter did it come to my head until 129's responce, which I didn't read completely and was rushing. I still think you are a good editor here and I hope your opinion of me doesn't change on this simple, and non life-threatening, dispute :) FellowWikiNewsie 01:13, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Unequivocally, I can say that I will not think of this in any future dealings with you. So don't worry about that. But, just to close this subject, I will make a couple of comments.
  1. I am surprised that you couldn't imagine a gay person having sex with a member of the opposite sex. Even so, I also think that artificial insemination is so common that most people have heard of it.
  2. As far as the deleted sections, which I didn't delete by the way, I will say this. All I did was suggest that it was better suited for the commentary section as it had devolved into suggesting that Mary Cheney had spontaneously become pregnant like a hammerhead shark. This, I thought, was denegrating to her and inappropriate for the discussion page which is supposed to be about the editing of the article.
  3. The last point I want to make is: what difference does it make how she got pregnant? The story is that she gave birth to a child. Would you ask that of a heterosexual woman? And your question (which has been struck) "So, is this the first time this ever happened?" still strikes me as kinda weird.

Cheers, --SVTCobra 02:42, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I just though he may have mistyped what he meant. I understood him and Laughed a bit...but for one, I just think, as he said, it just dod not come to him at that moment. Happens to me often enough. I simply just took it as a misunderstanding, and I think that FellowWikiNews is smart enough to know how "babies are made" I just think that Cheney being a lesbian, it would not be the first thing that crosses my mind. So I understand. No hard feelings on my end :) DragonFire1024 03:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
