Talk:English Wikipedia reaches one million articles
Add topicJanuary 2006
[edit]Is this specifically for the English edition? If so, it should specify that and then list the next-closest edition's number of articles. --Brian McNeil / talk 16:55, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. Where can I see the amount of articles currently posted? Jason Safoutin 16:58, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- it's strange, the whole wikipedia reache 1 600 000 in march 2005 see here: [1]]
- the english alone wikipedia writes : In this English version, started in 2001, we are currently working on 938,970 articles. on its main page

Help out on the PR for this milestone
[edit]m:Wikimedia press releases/Wikipedia hits milestone 1 million English articles
Clarify merged items
[edit]The information brought over from the merged article needs tidied up a bit, can we get an Original Reporting section on the talk page with some quotes from the IRC channel? Was the event actually preceded? rather than "Proceeded"? If so, was someone waiting to try and get the millionth article? --Brian McNeil / talk 23:37, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Front page news?
[edit]This isn't worth being the main headline. Most people who want to read the news don't care about Wikipedia's article count, no matter how large it may be. 70.114.7.71 23:45, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Isn't the point that the moment being celebrated was when Wikipedia had 1,000,000 articles, not more than 1,000,000?
- I disagree, it's relevant to our audience. Frankie Roberto 11:26, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Quote
[edit]Can we get an original quote from Jimmy Wales for this article? Frankie Roberto 11:31, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- I asked him for quotes on this milestone, before it happened, he didn't get back to me. There's nothing really specific that I can extract off the Communications Committee board, either. As we speak, I believe he'd be over the Atlantic, heading to Moscow, then UK, then Washington, before ever getting back to Florida. -- user:zanimum
- There, Danny sent me a quote from Jimmy. It'll be exclusive until the PR gets picked up by more outlets. -- user:zanimum
- Nice quote, thanks very much! Frankie Roberto 22:50, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
