The other says he made the announcement on Tuesday, to (afaics) AFP. The focus, therefore, has to be the announcment to the press, not specifically to either one invididually; and rather than saying it was on Monday and Tuesday, one could actually say it was 'to the press Monday and Tuesday" (yes, that's possible; ordinarily one wouldn't, but in the case it seems necessary). The direct quote in the lede right now is actually exclusive to AFP and would therefore have to give credit to AFP, and then one would have a lede specific to AFP. So the lede needs to be rearranged to describe the whole Monday-and-Tuesday announcement. (So it seems to me, anyway.) Questions about the above? Ask.
