At 3:31am ET this reporter received opt-in text message from Barack Obama campaign website. It reads: "Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee. Watch the first Obama-Biden rally live at 3pm ET on www.BarackObama.com. Spread the word!"

At 5:41 am, received email datestamped "8/23/2008 4:53 AM" that reads:

Steven --

I have some important news that I want to make official.

I've chosen Joe Biden to be my running mate.

Joe and I will appear for the first time as running mates this afternoon in Springfield, Illinois -- the same place this campaign began more than 19 months ago.

I'm excited about hitting the campaign trail with Joe, but the two of us can't do this alone. We need your help to keep building this movement for change.

former president?

"Springfield owns a piece of presidential history, having been the home of former President Abraham Lincoln after he moved there in 1837. He lived there for 17 years, before taking presidential office in 1861."

He was not a former president at the time he lived there.

Come to think of it, I don't think he ever was a former President. He was President and then he was a late President or a deceased President or an assassinated President. He never did anything as a former President.

Suggest: "Springfield owns a piece of presidential history, having been the home of Abraham Lincoln after he moved there in 1837. He lived there for 17 years, including the time of the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
