Talk:Mexico and world react to murdered journalists

As a matter of full disclosure and concerning an external Wikipedia project[edit]

When I'm not active as a teacher on Wikinews, I'm also mentoring students on Wikipedia who write about journalists who have been killed while reporting or for their reporting. I call this the "Adopt a Journalist" project. Two students have recently written articles on three of the journalists killed in 2011 for Wikipedia and who are mentioned in the is article, but those articles are currently stuck in Articles for Creation. One is on Miguel López and his son, which you can view at [[1]]. The other is about Yolanda Ordaz de la Cruz, which you can see at [[2]]. I don't believe this is a COI on my part as I'm bringing the same expertise that a beat journalist would bring to coverage of a topic. Crtew (talk) 06:31, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

United Nations video[edit]

Shortly, I'll be uploading a video clip from UN / WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY WRAP. The UN News script documents the number of journalists killed since 2011. Because of the different ways in which organizations make their count, the numbers for the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders, are typically not in sync.Crtew (talk) 14:12, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I used one Wikimedia Commons image in the video as a cutaway: Mexico_map_eq.png Crtew (talk) 17:50, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Remarkable[edit]

This is a stellar effort!! I'm taking a little hiatus of late from reviewing, but this is a great article! I hope it gets published!! Bddpaux (talk) 00:16, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Media reports are incorrect[edit]

I've read several reports that repeat the claim that seven journalists in Veracruz have been killed since 2011. In the Wikinews, I mention each name of the journalists killed and they add up to eight. I suspect that the other sources are not counting the López's as two or they are missing the younger López, who also was a crime photojournalist working for Notiver alongside his father. Since I can't find a source that gives the correct number, I have created links to the journalists listed by the Committee to Protect Journalists. Crtew (talk) 14:52, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The May 4 story that is used as a source here doesn't list the son's name. López, as the father, is mentioned and he was killed with his and wife and child, but the child as also a journalist.Crtew (talk) 15:15, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
