Photos are to come, am switching to review now so as to get article up before too long after the event, will be becoming stale for a new story by tommorrow. Publish text only, then tommorrow i'll add photos of the event (having minor tech probs.). Juleshs31 (talk) 20:34, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note to editor doing review, sorry for lack of Wikilinks, was having problems getting them to work without including 'w:' visibly in the article, i.e. w:Trident Ploughshares. Obviously i'm doing it wrong, sorry not very good at wiki markup yet.

I've no time to review it properly right now (sorry!), but you put a pipe at the end of the wikilink like this: w:Trident Ploughshares. That will automatically turn into Trident Ploughshares when you save the page. You can also get a link to go somewhere other than what its text says. a free online news source would turn into a free online news source. Oh, I bulleted your listed notes, hope you don't mind. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 21:47, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah okay thanks, it was the | symbol I was missing. Thanks for tidying the OR notes also :) --Juleshs31 (talk) 11:14, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Leaflets?[edit]

Were you actually handing out leaflets at the demonstration? That's right out the window. If you're reporting for Wikinews you must be uninvolved as much as possible. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:57, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Brian, no I was not. I was entirely uninvolved with the leafleting, singing etc. Wasn't even wearing a santa hat :P Sorry if my notes style makes it sound like I was leafleting, when I say "Still leafleting..." I mean "The activists are still leafleting". Sorry for confusion. --Juleshs31 (talk) 12:00, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 • Ah, okay. The notes did concern me; it it had been "They're still leafletting". And, any chance of just one picture for the moment? It'll look better when published if it has one. Adding a day or more after publication would break policy by being a significant content change to the story. --Brian McNeil / talk 12:05, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah sure, am trying to clarify copyright status of my images, I'd love to contribute but as a semi-pro photographer, I can't give them away for commercial use. I mean, it's one thing stock shots for wikipedia for commercial use, but photojournalism's different you know? I'm okay with putting one up with the usual commons CC license and then adding more once i've clarified copyright for uploading locally to WN. Would that be okay? Add a couple now then add more in a day or so? Or is that still significant content change? --Juleshs31 (talk) 12:09, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 • I'm afraid it would be a significant content change. Local upload is only meant to be for Fair Use; per some Foundation resolution or other. Basically, if it is your work and you can't/won't put it on Commons is shouldn't be on Wikinews either. Yes, this hampers Wikinews' mission. --Brian McNeil / talk 12:23, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's frustrating, as I am more than happy for my work to be used non-commercially by open news sources like Wikinews, activist news sources like Indymedia and by pressure groups etc, but if a paper wants to use one of my images, as they currently do, they need to pay me, camera kit aint free, especially as a student! I mean, look at Indymedia, professional photogs will have a write up, with good photos, up same day as a demo/action. These are pros who earn a living from their images and usually go to indymedia before they submit to their clients! It's because most photos want to give something back to the community, in this case through indymedia, and not just sell their images. For me, it's also about experience and exposure as a student/semi-pro. Can I not upload a couple images now under the commons license, attributing them to me in the description box bit, and then upload the rest onto Flickr and link from the description something like "More photos of this action Here" etc? --Juleshs31 (talk) 12:31, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, what do you mean by "c/e"? --Juleshs31 (talk) 12:33, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your idea would work. Our mission is to create as much free content as possible, so we'd prefer you to effectively donate all your images, but I think that halfway house would work. Release one or two freely on Commons and link to the rest. Flickr lets you use the sort of noncommercial license you're on about, too, that wouldn't be suitable for Wikinews. C/e means "copyedit" by the way. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 12:38, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, well i'll put two images up now for the article, then i'll edit their descriptions or the article or something tommorrow linking to a Flickr set (the set being licensed under a CC non-commercial license) of more images from the action. Thanks --Juleshs31 (talk) 12:42, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 • I'm aware the commercial issue with stuff on Commons is a headache for anyone who'd like to see their pictures paid-for if a mainstream source wants to use them. The best we can offer on that is that I always nag people to use image credit; change that if you have a larger collection (including the linked-from image) on Flickr. I would be happy to discuss any ways the WN:EDP could be extended, but do read the associated Fondation image resolution. --Brian McNeil / talk 13:17, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Review of revision 921491 [Passed][edit]

Thanks, i've since added two more images, so draft needs approval. Although the formatting at the bottom of the text between the images is a bit dodgy and i'm not sure how to fix the alignment so that might need changing before republish. --Juleshs31 (talk) 13:34, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

London?[edit]

I guess Carlisle Place is in London? That should be clarified, there are other places in the UK you know. Other than that very minor nitpick, great work! the wub "?!" 22:30, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Carlisle Place is in London Victoria, I thought I said that, hmm must have been edited out.../checks/ yup it's gone, yeah good point not sure what happened to it. Thanks for the feedback :) --JulesMattsson (talk) 11:06, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've made that change, edit just needs sighting. Thanks, would have missed that :) --JulesMattsson (talk) 11:11, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
