Journalist notes

[edit]

Parts of this are a repeat of Australian media focuses on Olympic prospects against US for women's basketball.

The PDF should be updated to include more recent notes. A copy of the media schedule, which may contain copyrighted material, will be mailed to scoop. Otherwise, I can post if some one on scoop things it is fair use and can be uploaded here. (Then: Help!) --LauraHale (talk) 20:09, 16 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Who was at Camp?

I talked to the media guy on Tuesday about the media coverage. Fox News here reported 22 people attended on their television coverage. According to Davin, this was inaccurate. There are 19 players at camp according to the packet. I counted about that and think we can get pictures of all 19 of them to verify that. He seemed to think Penny Taylor was at camp but list says no. He also seemed to think one of the potential Olympic selections was still competing in Europe. Media list was sent to scoop. --LauraHale (talk) 23:56, 16 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

These appear to be in the nature of reporters' notes

COI disclaimer

[edit]

I don't think there is much of a COI disclaimer but we got support from Wikimedia Australia through John Vandenberg to make this happen. This was merely to cover costs to have photographers there. I don't see this as any different than a newspaper paying you a salary but stating just so it is there. --LauraHale (talk) 20:09, 16 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

As BRS has put it, Related news is a Wikinews article used as a source. (I'd say, that isn't the only reason for listing something under Related news, but it is a sufficient reason.) --Pi zero (talk) 22:11, 16 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Added a section for that? Ah. Oh. Okay. Now reading it and yeah. the previous article is a source. --LauraHale (talk) 22:57, 16 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wikinews workshop

[edit]

We're going to try to have a Wikinews Workshop in wikimedia-au at 8pm UTC+11 Friday night with the idea of writing parts of the article, improving this article and showing people how to edit. Wikinews reviewers and contributors are more than welcome to help explain things. :) --LauraHale (talk) 22:57, 16 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Arithmetic. Eep. 8pm UTC+11 = 9am UTC = 5am UTC-4.
Are you maybe in UTC+10? I'd have reckoned 8pm there would be 6am here. --Pi zero (talk) 00:02, 17 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Using this with Canberra ACT time, it says 5am CST. I get confused with daylight savings time so you could be right. I've got some time related issues so this is about the only time I can do. :( (I have to leave for the airport at 4am my time on Saturday.) --LauraHale (talk) 00:39, 17 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm figuring you're currently in UTC+10; that's what the converter says, and makes 5am in Chicago. I'm in EST (US eastern time), so it'd be 6am for me; and for Wikinewsies in, oh, let's say the British Isles, it'd be 10am (rather than 9am if you were in UTC+11). --Pi zero (talk) 11:48, 17 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ah well. :) If you're awake between 6am and 8am, please drop on in to wikimedia-au. I think we might also work on creating an article about Australia's economy. :) --LauraHale (talk) 11:54, 17 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Anonymous edits

[edit]

A bunch of work was just done on this article by an anonymous IP, culminating with a request to review. Folks, please log in to write articles. Wikinews works by individual users accumulating reputation; and if the Wikinews community can't tell who you are, you don't accumulate any reputation from the work. Moreover, an OR article requires —in addition to excellent reporter's notes— that the reporter already have accumulated reputation here, which factors into the reviewer's judgement of both the notes and the article's interpretation of them; and that rules out OR by an anonymous IP since an anonymous IP cannot accumulate a (positive) reputation.

At an absolute minimum, we need a user with some accumulated reputation to certify that this OR article has been written legitimately. So I've reverted the request to review by the anonymous IP. --Pi zero (talk) 14:35, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fourteen players

[edit]

Understand, I'm not source-checking yet; but in copyediting, I've noticed that the article ends with a list of "fourteen players" that has sixteen names on it. --Pi zero (talk) 22:22, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Resolved. There were fifteen named by the source, including one who wasn't at the first week, and excluding two who hadn't been removed from our list. --Pi zero (talk) 00:24, 21 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Gladstone

[edit]

There appear to be two different places in Australia called "Gladstone"; I didn't know which en.wp article to link it to. --Pi zero (talk) 23:27, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Anterior cruciate ligament

[edit]

Didn't manage to find this detail in the sources, but (it being OR) did a quick google and readily turned up plenty of confirmation, such as this. --Pi zero (talk) 02:26, 21 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

I can see I'm going to have a similar problem with the bit about the three silver/gold medals. This stuff really ought to be covered by sources, but I'm not going to raise a fuss over it (assuming that detail passes a sanity check; no, if I raise a fuss it'd likely be some overall consideration after I've completed all the detail work...). --Pi zero (talk) 02:32, 21 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
