Talk:Responsibility claim for London attacks questioned by experts
Add topicJuly 2005
[edit]Hey, i tried to find the source and the only source seems to be these two paragraphs on http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8496293/:
- But MSNBC TV translator Jacob Keryakes, who said that a copy of the message was later posted on a secular Web site, noted that the claim of responsibility contained an error in one of the Quranic verses it cited. That suggests that the claim may be phony, he said.
- "This is not something al-Qaida would do," he said.
i think someone we need something more solid from people better knowing al-Qaida and the Koran before putting this in the centre column. BTW, the infowars site is not a wiki site nor an open publishing (via comments) site, so presumably a small group of authors is responsible for the whole site.
It seems they are a group that take numerology seriously: http://www.infowars.com/articles/occult/terror_attack_numerology_updatehtm.htm See the wikipedia article numerology.
This means that they pick on chance events and play with numbers.
IMHO, al-Qaida networks are both under pressure from police/military/secret services forces in terms of people being arrested or extrajudicially executed and also in getting many new recruits - so chances are that someone makes an error in quoting the Koran, maybe because they're new or desperate or whatever, are surely quite high.
Moreover, can we really take a microsoft network (MSN) translator that seriously? Anyone ever heard of microsoft bugs and viruses?
i think this story should have a developing tag, it's not serious enough for a full, independent article. Boud 9 July 2005 11:00 (UTC)
- Agreed, Infowars delves into conspiracy theory territory far too often to be used a reliable source. --Wolfrider 9 July 2005 14:21 (UTC)
- The story is little more than a blurb, so I have no strong opinion either way. Of course, "can we really take a microsoft network (MSN) translator seriously" is not really a valid objection; MSNBC is a TV channel that is independent from Microsoft software development, and even the software company has a skilled team of translators who localize its applications into many languages. However, it would nevertheless be interesting to get the opinion of an Arabic speaker on the statement of responsibility. If anyone wants to do some good original reporting -- try asking on the Arabic Wikipedia village pump for help.--Eloquence 02:39, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

- True, this was a rather POV objection ;). i guess the blue screen message has been skillfully localised into many, many languages :P. Boud 00:02, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
Conspiracy commentary
[edit]Moved here:
- In the absence of additional evidence or arrests, at least one writer has suggested that the London attacks were not the work of Arab terrorists or Islamic Jihadists at all, but rather were orchestrated by western governments to rally public support for continued imperialism in the middle east. However, this view does not appear to be supported by solid evidence.
- Matt Hutaff. "The bombing of the London Underground was a false-flag operation designed to keep the West mired in war." — The Simon, July 7, 2005
This is commentary with few additional facts. I'd like to see the Netanyahu story written as a separate article, though.--Eloquence 14:23, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- I don't see any "facts" on the table yet. I think its just as likely the bombings were a frame-up as anything else..especially if some bombs/"evidence" was left lying around like in Madrid. Which side will these bombings help in this war ????? I say the war mongers, profiteers and others who want to see the conflict continue or escalate; because these bombings will have the result of the British people now being more in favour of the Iraq occupation...I predict. We'll see. Paulrevere2005 18:28, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- Even worse for me, which I'm already seeing, is that the G8 is using this as an excuse to ignore Africa and Live 8. Just my opinion. NGerda 18:29, July 10, 2005 (UTC)
