Talk:South Sudan gains independence
Add topicToo close to source
[edit]Checking just one paragraph —the last— it's too close to the BBC source. It's two consecutive paragraphs of the source, same ideas in same order, with some superficial rewording.
Don't pick sentences from the sources and reword them. A really well done synthesis article largely avoids single-sourced sentences. It's easy to verify, but if one reads a source paragraph and then highlights things in the article verified by that source paragraph, one finds oneself highlighting a few words here and a few words there scattered across the article. (Reviewing an article like that can be a real eye-opener in terms of how thoroughly one can avoid copying the structure of the sources, which is why I'd like to devise an illustration of it for our prospective page on avoiding plagiarism.) --Pi zero (talk) 13:42, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- I've changed the part attributed to the BBC and also the one attributed to the The Telegraph. Many updated sources can be added to keep the article from going stale, if needed, today at least. Mattisse (talk) 19:34, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- Also, sources vary on some issues. For example, two sources say two million were killed in the war, while another says at least 1.5 million. Mattisse (talk) 19:58, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
