Thoughts

At this moment I'm too tired to do the verification phase of a full review anyway, but on first glance I'm really struggling with how to distinguish between research-based OR, and synthesis. Something to do with the extraction process I think, but I've never been entirely clear in my mind on what the determining feature in the extraction process would be. I think I'll sleep on the general question, and then if this is still on the review queue in the morning I'll take a close, thoughtful look at just what the extraction process is here. Met with them?

He said he was in close communication with. Nowadays one can easily be in close communication with somebody on the opposite site of the planet. The only thing I see that suggests he met with them is the title of the press release, and what the press release actually says, after that title, is that he joined them in a press conference. So I don't think I'm seeing support here for actually "meeting" with them other than holding a press conference with them. --Pi zero (talk) 18:45, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

I'd thought the sticking point would be OR; but I decided it just wasn't OR yet as synthesis marginally satisfied the two-source requirement, and moved on. What I did stick at was whether he "met" with these health officials in any sense other than holding a joint press conference with them. I didn't find anything anywhere that really said that; the title of the press release sort of... encouraged you to think that without actually saying it unambiguously. Since it's a press release, part of its purpose is to show him in a good light, so if they could have said something more concrete they would have. I suspect that neither he nor those public health officials has a great deal of time for such "meetings"; they might not have been in the same room on Wednesday before the press conference started. But I think I managed to finesse the trick with surgical adjustments to the headline and lede that don't go beyond the pale. Oddly, I also didn't find the last couple of sentences directly attributed to Lakey. The reviewed revision should automatically have been edited by removing {{Review}} and adding {{Publish}} at the bottom, and the edit sighted; if this did not happen, it may be done manually by a reviewer.
