Team USA versus Italy, 4:30 local start at the one place where being held. See papers. I am here.
USA had early possession but in their own third. USA has ugly pants. Seriously ugly.
This game feels way more aggressive than the previous game. 14:06 and both teams did a line change. 14 Italy had a penalty at 14:06 left for holdinh. 2minutes in the box. USA power play. Penalty puck drop that first looked like no one won it before USA got possession and then Italy got it and whacked it down. Then italy got it back in usa third. Italy having possession. Really physical game. Lots faster. And at 13:00 looked like real chance for USA goal. Italian goalie had to work for that. Italian line change. USA wins puck drop in red area on Italy third.
Three large Italian flags opposite me. Two big USA ones. Lots of Russian flags all over. Russians play the next game.
12:20 Italy fast break and goalie falls over and scrum in front of net. Pure miracle that ITaly did not score. Line change for both team at 12:13 following mess in front of USA net. In red circle. USA gets possessopn. USA got 2 minutes for holding player 9. Italy was at full strength and USA now short handed.
Russian fans are cheering for Italy and loudly while waving their russian flags.
The front of the team area is clear so players can watch through the glass.
Italy got a good hold of the puck after two team USA players crashed into eachother and had to seperate
Italy got shot on goal but team USA goalie stopped in the area around 10:20 left. 10:09 both teams at full strength.
Aggressively trying to get a puck just out of reach leads to players falling.9:12 and scrum in front of Italian net.
USA could use better passing at times.
Loud cheer when it looked like Italy may score.
They really play against the boards.
And USA pass reflected off italy but USA able to get it back at 6:53 left. USA did line change around 6:40.
Seriously, can we hold on to the puck USA? Stpid bad passes TO ITALY.
Sometimes, it looks like they are just chucking the puck down the ice on a prayer.
5:05 and Italy in front of USA net again, saved by somewhat decent goaltending. Player cleared itsideways.
USA fans screaming at team heard on other side including "Get it out."
ITaly is having lots of good chances.
Peantly at 3:27 and USA gets possession. And then moves the pick towards their side of the ice. 2:30 and USA had good shot on goal.
USA and italy about equal with shots on goal: 4 for USA 5 for Italy.
Penalty at 2:30 after 68 for italy got 2 minutes for interference.
Seriously, team USA had problesm with passing.
1:44 and Italians fans start chanting, which was picked up by Russian fans.
1:15 and USA gets good pass and then scores. Italian goalkeeper looks resigned. 6 scored for USA assisted by 15 and 19. It was a power play goal.
Italy gets a 2 minute penalty following goal for interference. Number 7 for roughing.
Game now feels a bit slower and less hitting.
USA fans occassionally start to try chanting USA USA USA.
Period ends with 1-0, USA ahead.
SECOND PERIOD
Starts with loud italian fans. USA possession in Italian third.
14:12 both teams at full strengh.
Italian line change at 13:48.
I am surrounded by Italians in the press area.
ITaly had penalty for too many men on the ice. 2 minute penalthy. Team USA power play.
Team USA is doing better with posession
Roar from fans after USA did not score.
Lots of time spent in front of Italian goal.
Both teams full strneght 11:45 left in second.
I can see why Italy looks like they had to o many men on the ice. They open the door for what looks like line change, talk and then no one leaves or some back in
Seriously Team USA, PASSING PASSING PASSING.
The puck keeps getting stuck behind the ITalian goal right now around 10:02 left. Third or fourth time it was tied up. 9:50 and Italian line change
Fans go nuts when they think Italy may score.
In additin to cleaning in front of the goal, they also squegee in front of the bench to assist in visibility.
Team USA penalthy 23 for interference at 9:48 left in second period.
Slower and more open in the second periodl
7:46 left and both at full strength.
lots of Russian cheering for the Ialians. 6:05. These are not real chances, just Italy with puck in USA third.
USA taking long shots not on goal.
3:48 and USA scores. Number 4. USA up 2-0. Assisted by 6 Declan Farmer.
USA not afraid to ram players.
This Russian cheering for Italy when they touch the puck is annoying. And Itlian fans got the Russians chanting.
2 minutes for teeing for 69 at 1:18 left in the second.
The Russian fans cheer when Italy has posession, bad possession and not good shots on goal. It is like they have no clue what hockey is.
Period ends 2-0.
In the intermission, they did this thing where they went to into the stands and talked to Americans for the big screen. The female commentator asked the USA fans to do their chant. While doing it, there was loud booing from the Russian fans in the arena.
USA starts third period with possession. USA penalthy. Number 19. Two minutes. Both teams at 14:38 left with shorthanded. Twylor Chase for teeing.
14:17, Italy at full strength.
This period looks fast with puck movement and chasing. Not many collisions.
Italian fans started the Russians off again. I can see the Italian fans with their flags and shirts waving adn chanting, then the Russians around them starting to chant.
12:33 left and botehr at full strenth
12:15 and Italy gets puck near USA goal and crowd roars.
13 for USA at 11:56 gets puck and basically slides down the ice and slide puck past goalie into the net. Stadium mostly silent, only the USA section chants loudly. Joushua Sweeney scored the goal. USA 3-0. Goal was unassisted. It was beautiful.
Person with ENR accreditation told to not have tripod and guy was like "I have ENR accreditation." And yeah. Not fun confrontation. He actually took a picture of the guy's accreditation to check with people about its legitimacy because he had a tripod for his tiny camera. (The latter part I had not seen in London, though I saw the journalists cannot take pictures with professional looking cameras.)
Wow. 10:12 and USA looked like they had chance on goal, with Italian goalie falling over. Game is pretty much staying down in the Italian end now.
7:49 and USA had shot over the net. Game still in that third of Italy part. Some falling over but mostly against te boards.
Italy touches the puck in USA end and fans get loud again.
Italian coach and goalkeeper both did that breathe blowing eye up looking resigned thing. (Big screen and tv of them.) 6:40 left in third.
3,617 people in attendance. 4:57 left in third and game still in the Italian third
4:42 and USA has nice pass to score goal. 4-0. Very nice. Again, little Russian cheering. This was completely unlike the home crowd in London where fans cheered for good play, and damnit, that goal was good hockey. Number 4 scored and 27 and 15 assissted.
USA took a time out with 4:42 left following goal. USA did a goal change, bringin gin Jeff Lee.
During thing from red circle, 5 from Italy flipped completely over on is back with blade completely in the air, as oposed to a slide onto his side.
Stadium is very, very quiet. The ITalian NPC people next to me have left.
28 for USA got penalty at 3:26 for roughin.
3:05 left and USA goalie does fantastic glove save abve head that looked so simple.
Despite penalty play, puck is in Itlian goal third.
Italian fans started chanting again.
ITalians are slow with line changes, and always leaving their doors open longer than they should.
1:32 and both teams at full strength.
1:26 and Italy scores. The stadium erupts into loud, loud chanting and lots of waving of Russian flags. 5 scored for italy, assisted by 6.
USA player down at 1:08. Number 20. Person goes out onto the ice for him.
Italian fans chant for their team while there.
Ah good sportsmanship. 20 comes off the ice injured and he gets round of applause.
Loud hit at 37 seconds left. Another loud hit against the boards. Loudest all game these two.
USA scored with 4.9 seconds and USA fans loud, Russian fans siletn again. It came after a follow up shot following a nice run down the ice where the skater was chased by two Italians. 28 scored and 15 assisted. Game finished 5-1.
