note - a width of 100% breaks Internet Explorer rendering. setting it to 95% is a temporary fix — please keep IE in mind if you want to change this again. -- IlyaHaykinson 07:14, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

IE... you mean some people still use that thing? Wow, it's a strange world. The bellman 11:38, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Just under 9 out of 10 web users use IE. Our goal should be to meet the audience's current needs and not make the site look broken on the browser used by the vast majority of Internet users. :-) -- Davodd | Talk 20:09, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Some three-quarters of the visitors to the WikinewLatestNews blog use Firefox, and I'd imagine that the stats for Wikinews itself are not very different. Dan100 (Talk) 11:06, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Adding Audio Wikinews

[edit]

I think we should add Audio Wikinews to the Front Page Menu. NGerda 22:01, May 21, 2005 (UTC)

and since we are at it Print Edition too. --Cspurrier 23:00, 21 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
Good idea. NGerda 00:26, May 22, 2005 (UTC)

WNN

[edit]

I think WNN should be added.--Ryan524 16:30, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Proposal:

Welcome to Wikinews,
the free-content news source you can write!
December 27, 2024 06:39 UTC

Latest news | Get involved | Submit story | Newsroom | Audio | WNN | Print | RSS

any objections, i also like to know if anybody has a diffrent idea for exactly where it should go.

Nevermind, i added it elsewhere on the main page, adding the WNN links, enlarges this too much.--Ryan524 20:37, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

New RSS feed

[edit]

We have an RSS feed built in to every Wikinews Category, and here is the one for Category:Published. I really think we should use this feed, mainly because it's a live RSS feed, which is what RSS feeds are supposed to be. NGerda 16:45, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)

I know about this, the problem is it will die with the next mediawiki upgrade. Dan100's talkpage (IIRC) has more info about this --Cspurrier 16:47, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
You mean, this? NGerda 16:49, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)
Sory, Dan100 reply on User_talk:The_bellman --Cspurrier 16:51, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Additional issue is the RSS feed has a substantial vandalism security issue, which will hopefully be addressed but is not yet ready for prime time. - Amgine/talk 16:54, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't the point of an RSS feed to be live? NGerda 16:55, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)
Only if both secure and reliable as well. - Amgine/talk 16:56, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

empty span atrribute in this template stops it from validating to w3 validater

[edit]

I removed an empty span atrribute in a table cell (<td> in html src) because the validater doesn't like it. I don't think it will screw anything up. Bawolff 22:48, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit]

The RSS feed link directs to an off-site non-Wikimedia webpage RSS feed maintained by a single person, which is not wiki. This should not be linked to on the main page. I am merely using the same logic Dan100 uses to dismiss many of my proposals. Good day. -- NGerda 04:56, July 30, 2005 (UTC)

I oppose removing it, it is a useful service used by many, It is not antiwiki since as far as I know he does not exclude any published story. All he is doing is converting the work of the community into a different form in an exact way. Also please see this page as it is very relevant to proposals like this --15:26, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

Make a nice big blue border around the FrontPageMenu

[edit]

like this:

Welcome to Wikinews,
the free-content news source you can write!

December 27, 2024 06:39 UTC | Latest articles RSS | Audio RSS| Print RSS

I belive this would look nicer on the main page then the current version with no border. Bawolff 20:29, 2 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
